Apple has a special keynote today and it’s all about the new iPad – specifically, the new iPad Air and the new iPad Pro. Here are all the details of the announcement today.
New iPad Air – now in two sizes
Apple has done two changes to the new iPad Air – the most obvious one is to introduce one more size variant. We now have an 11-inch and another 13-inch iPad Air.
There are no details about the screen resolution or anything yet, but we expect the 13-inch variant to be just a bigger iPad Air and that’s about it.
Now, the screen itself has gotten a change that I think is welcomed. That entire camera module has now been moved into the bezel, located at top of the iPad Air in landscape mode. I guess Apple is putting a priority on its usability when paired with the Magic Keyboard.
The new iPad Air is also powered by the M2 chip, which is an upgrade over the current iPad Air’s M1 chip.
We also have more storage options of up to 1TB, and the prices start from $599 for the 11-inch and $799 for the 13-inch version.
The new iPad Air can be paired with the Apple Pencil or the new Apple Pencil Pro.
iPad Pro
Apple did a lot of upgrades for the new iPad Pro and there are a lot of things to talk about.
First, the iPad Pro is still available in two sizes – 11-inch and 13-inch, but they’re also much thinner than before. The 11-inch is only at 5.3mm, whereas the 13-inch is at 5.1mm only. They’re also impossibly thin.
Despite being so thin and lightweight, the hardware it packs inside is insanely good. The new iPad Pro is now using an OLED screen – wait, not an OLED screen. There are two OLED panels squeezed into one screen.
Apple is calling this the Tandem OLED and this means the screen is going to be brighter, more vivid, and just plain looks better than before.
Plus, the new iPad Pro will also have a Nano Textured Glass, which is essentially an anti-glare layer that is similar to the S24 Ultra’s screen. That means we can use the iPad Pro outdoors and we can still read everything on the screen easily.
The camera has also been moved to the same location as the iPad Air – and that’s a welcomed change – especially since we have a beautiful OLED panel here.
New M4 chip with more performance leap that I think deserves a section on its own, and the upgrades are to be expected – faster CPU, better GPU, and also better thermals too.
Speaking of thermals, the new iPad Pro comes with a graphite sheet to help dissipate heat even faster, so our long gaming sessions will be smooth and consistent.
The new iPad Pro comes with at least 256GB storage and the price starts at $999 for the 11-inch version and $1299 for the 13-inch version.
New Magic Keyboard for the iPad Pro
With the new iPad Pro comes a new Magic Keyboard too. An entirely new design that is thinner and even lighter than before. It has the same design floating design and the keyboard has an entire function row at the top, and also a bigger trackpad than before.
The price for this new Magic Keyboard is at $299 for the 11-inch version and $349 for the 13-inch version.
Apple Pencil Pro
Apple also announced the new Apple Pencil Pro, which comes with a few new ways we can interact with it.
We can now squeeze the pencil and rotate it to do various different asks, and it also has a haptic engine for feedback as well.
The new Apple Pencil Pro also works with Find My so we can locate the Apple Pencil Pro if we lose it
The new Apple Pencil Pro will be available for $129.
