Freshly baked from the oven, Microsoft unveiled its latest tablet-PC, the Microsoft Surface Pro 3 and it is now available for pre-orders. However, Malaysian enthusiasts that are interested in becoming few of the early adopters on this beautiful beast may have to hold their horses for a little while more as Microsoft Malaysia’s official website have not made pre-ordering available – at least not yet.
Designed to be what Microsoft claims and boasts to be capable of replacing your conventional laptops, it is 1.4-inch larger than its predecessor. Not only that, it has a higher resolution compared to the Surface Pro 2 alongside with a slimmer design, making it the thinnest piece of machine that houses an Intel Core Processor.
In this case, Microsoft has also decided to strike off the conventional Nvidia Tegra processor and fitted in some awesome 4th Generation Intel processors in the Surface Pro 3. Three models are available for the Microsoft Surface Pro 3 where buyers can choose between i3, i5 and i7 processors.
With variants of 64GB or 128GB storage with 4GB RAM; or 256GB or 512GB storage with 8GB RAM; it is also a great news for average-heavy users who want all their music and movies on the go without an additional external storage device that comes into their way of living a posh-stylish lifestyle.
Since the first Microsoft Surface was introduced, viewing angles have been a major problem for users to have their Surface to be tilted at an angle that goes with their liking. But worry no more, the latest Surface Pro 3 has a flexible multi-position kickstand that allows users to have clear views of their Surface. Be it on a kitchen counter learning to cook your favorite Italian cuisine or editing photos taken from your recent trip to Japan, it will not be a problem at all with the aid of the Surface Pen as well, which is not seen in previous models of the Microsoft Surface.
Speaking of the Surface Pen, Microsoft has done a pretty great job in adding the function of palm blocking which iPads will require a third-party app to do a mere decent job, or not!
On the other hand, with the Type Cover that is an optional add-on for Surface users attached to the device; it is tad similar to the MacBook Air. With starting price of $799 going up to $2000, users are better off getting a laptop with better specifications with the costly price paid. With less rigidity, laptops such as the 13″ MacBook Air with Retina Display or even a Samsung Chromebook may give a better bang for your bucks.
But putting this in your mind, if you are a mobile table type of person wanting to have more than just simple iOS games on the go, the Surface Pro 3 is definitely the choice to go with, having the capability of running Battlefield 4 and one of the most played game in the world, Dota 2, at a moderate settings. However, bear in mind that being a Windows 8.1 tablet, the Windows Store is of unsatisfactory level. While the Apple App Store has free version of some awesomely great apps, Windows Store users have to literally burn break their piggy banks in order to have these apps such as Angry Birds and Cut the Rope installed on their Windows device.
If you are looking for something that is user-friendly and minimalist, as the Malaysian way of expressing it, just get the iPad lah! Why Microsoft Microsoft all?
To add on a side note, Microsoft has ample work to be done with their Windows Mobile OS as it is not as friendly compared to any Mac OS or iOS to begin with.
