It is no secret that Apple has always been the “integrator” of features and functions rather than the “inventor” of something new, especially in recent years.

So the recent ChatGPT integration into iOS 18 and macOS Sequoia announcement is not a big surprise by any means but it seems like one chatbox is apparently not enough because they are closing a deal with Google to bring Gemini into the ecosystem as well.

Reported by Mark Gurman over at Bloomberg, he disclosed that Apple is actively pursuing deals with both Google and AI-focused startup Anthropic with strong hints about the former where the fruit company will finalize the entire partnership as soon as this fall because it will also meet up with the release timeframe of Apple Intelligence.

Despite Apple as confident as they always are, that Apple Intelligence will run on-device as well as online-based LLMs to do things like answer questions, review and summarize text, and generate images when the request is a “bit too much”, it will consult the user to grant permission towards ChatGPT and pass that prompt to the OpenAI service.

The rumor also matches what Craig Federighi who is the Head of Software Engineering at Apple hinted at additional chatbot integrations for a more flexible choice of selecting the best AI companion for their needs.

However, what comes around doesn’t go around because Meta also tried to introduce its own service and models for Apple Intelligence but a polite “No” is all the response Mark Zuckerberg got in this interaction because of “bad privacy policies”.

So I guess all we can do is wait for Apple Intelligence to officially launch and see what happens from that point onwards.
