It’s been long since apps such as Onavo that offers data compression so that you can get more mobile internet (3G, HSPA) usage for paying the same.
Such built-in data compression feature has already been seen on Opera Mini back in the days since before the first iPhone was released.
In a technical term, it works in a way that you send the compressed data to Google’s servers, uncompressed and processed and then gets whatever that is requested by the user, then compressed and sent back to the user to uncompress, and voila! Results!
In layman’s terms though, as Google puts it :
“Reduce data consumption by loading web pages via Google proxy servers.”
It sums pretty much everything in a very understandable way.
I’m hoping to see this feature to be on Google Chrome browser as soon as possible, as there are a few benefits for all of us :
- Websites load faster (Captain Obvious!)
- Get more internet than what you paid for
- Places with horrible signal or slow internet now has a saviour
- Possibly prolongs battery life
