Western Digital, or WD for short, has been known as the world leader in storage solutions. Start from today till Saturday, 7 June, WD will be demonstrating the first PCI Express hard drives at Computex Taipei.
This latest prototype introduces the new SATA Express interface, a combination of the SATA technology and PCI Express technology, which is also offered on the recently launched Intel series-9 chipset motherboard platforms, according to WD. The SATA Express interfaces is designed to lead with faster speeds with lower power consumption and increased flexibility for future OEM designs as compared to its predecessors.

The preparation work to this demonstration has been in development for almost three years, says WD. Back in 2011, SATA-IO, the group that is responsible for lining out the future of the SATA technology, has announced that a new specification that would make a fundamental change to the core technology behind SATA by fusing it with the more advanced PCI Express computer interface was under development. Last year, the SATA Express specification was finally announced. What will be coming in the future? Let’s see. I’m certainly looking forward to it. SSDs are fast, obviously it’s not fast enough.
