In the wake of Amazon’s drone delivery testing, Google is also initiating their own drone delivery research. In Australia, a proof of concept robot is being tested under ‘Project Wing’ by Google X. It is to show that delivery by drones are actually possible.
Modern day drones are commonly capable of vertical take-off and landing. Drones are highly capable and have the agility advantage since the entire flight are fully automated. A delivery mechanism is the first key to this concept where the drone must deliver the package safely without getting it lost or damage. Another challenge is to avoid other airborne aircraft or entity. Google does have the experience in the automation field since they are also working on autonomous land vehicle projects.
With drones, things could be more efficient and faster since everything would be autonomous and simultaneous. We could only imagine drones flying by in groups just like birds in the skies in he near future. Drones that deliver packages, conducting surveys and sorts of stuff. Check out the video below where they introduce Project Wing.
