While Samsung’s SmartThings platform is mainly used for smart automation and perhaps monitoring, through the latest update, they are trying to make it more personal by offering several practical and useful features.
The theme surrounds the Family Care suite, where newly added functions like Care on Call are capable of knowing the elderly’s activity – like when they first became active, their latest activity, even the weather on their side – right before you call them. Monitoring also got optimized to identify unusual usage patterns or unhealthy air conditions.
Moving onto robot vacuums such as the Bespoke AI Jet Bot Steam Ultra, they can now be commanded to take a patrol run of the house when no activity has been detected for a while. Since it has a built-in camera and two-way communication, you can literally see what’s happening and talk through it if needed.
They’re also doubling down on data with something called Care Insight. It looks at longer-term patterns – temperature, humidity, activity levels, device usage – and compares them week over week. So instead of just alerts, you get trends that might signal something is changing.
On top of that, Samsung is expanding its AI-powered Now Brief feature. If you’re not familiar, it’s basically a personalized daily summary that already exists on Galaxy phones, especially with the upcoming Galaxy S26 lineup. Now it’s pulling in more SmartThings data like home security, family updates, pet care, energy usage, and even sleep insights, all in one place. And instead of manually opening it, the system can trigger automatically – like when you walk up to the TV or interact with the fridge.
They plan to bring Now Brief to TVs from 2024 onward and Family Hub refrigerators from 2021 models and up.
