U Mobile has officially completed the migration of all customers to its own nationwide ULTRA5G network, ending its reliance on the wholesale access arrangement with Digital Nasional Berhad (DNB). The transition, which took effect on July 1, 2026, marks a significant milestone for the mobile operator as it takes full control of its nationwide 5G infrastructure and services.

U Mobile completes migration to its own nationwide ULTRA5G network after DNB exit 1

The company began rolling out its standalone network in July 2025 and says it has now surpassed 85% Coverage of Populated Areas (CoPA). That rollout pace earned U Mobile recognition from the Malaysia Book of Records as the country’s fastest 5G network deployment. The operator also pointed to third-party assessments from Ookla and Opensignal, which it says validate improvements in network performance and user experience.

From outdoors to indoors, the latter also saw more than 190 In-Building Coverage (IBC) sites deployed that sit within PoIs, including transport hubs, shopping malls, offices, healthcare facilities, hotels, government buildings, and enterprise environments. It plans to increase that number to more than 600 sites, aiming to improve 5G reliability in areas where indoor connectivity is increasingly important.

Owning its nationwide 5G network also gives U Mobile greater flexibility to introduce services that were previously more difficult to implement under a shared wholesale model. The company says future offerings will include network prioritisation during periods of congestion, reserved network capabilities for enhanced performance, built-in security features, and additional innovations enabled by its 5G Standalone architecture.

To support continued expansion, U Mobile has also secured RM4.3 billion in syndicated financing from a consortium of local and international financial institutions. The funding will be used to further expand network coverage and strengthen overall network quality as the company continues building out its nationwide infrastructure.

The migration concludes a year-long transition period during which U Mobile maintained wholesale access to DNB’s network to ensure uninterrupted 5G services while its own infrastructure was being deployed. With that process now complete, all customers have been moved to the company’s ULTRA5G network as U Mobile continues expanding coverage and rolling out new services across Malaysia.
