Galaxy Watch Ultra2

Let’s now talk about the new smartwatches – starting with the Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra2. I do have the first-generation Watch Ultra with me, so I did a quick comparison between the two.

The new Watch Ultra2 looks practically identical – with the same 47mm screen and still has that bezel ring around the screen that cannot rotate. The new screen is touted to go up to 5000 nits of brightness, but I am not sure how Samsung got this number. The buttons at the side are a little larger now, and the overall watch body is also thinner, measuring at 10.7mm.

Even with a thinner body, Samsung says that they’ve managed to fit in an 800mAh battery, which is 35% larger than before. It will also be powered by the Snapdragon Wear Elite chipset now, with 32% better CPU and 19% better GPU performance… but my question is why? Why do I need so much performance on a smartwatch? I need a more efficient chipset for longer battery life, not more performance.

Oh, Samsung didn’t mention anything about the battery life – as in the hours of usage – so I’m curious to know what kind of efficiency this Snapdragon Wear Elite will bring.

In case you’re wondering if the watch strap is the same, I’m here to tell you yes, my strap fits perfectly on the Watch Ultra2.

The new Watch Ultra2 will also have a new Trail Run feature that logs the route and elevation and also has hydration guidance, and another new Diving feature that is made in partnership with Mares. The Watch Ultra2 will track the depth, time, and water temperature for you.

Watch9

There is also the Samsung Galaxy Watch9 in both 40mm and 44mm sizes just like before. It now has an aluminium build with up to 25% lighter than before. It also packs a 390mAh battery and powered by the Snapdragon Wear Elite as well.

New Watch features

The new watches will also have new software features. One of it being the new preventive health features that uses the data that it logs to recommend you what to improve and how to improve.

It can also let you know in advance if there are any potential health issues. It does this by using the heart rate variability data, the blood oxygen level, heart rate, skin temperature, and respiratory rate.

The watch can also give us a heart health score based on our sleep, our activity, BMI, and vascular load.

Oh – if you’re like me who always talks to the watch, then you’ll know that we have to say “Hey Google” first. Now, Samsung is removing that barrier. We can just lift our wrist, and directly talk to Gemini on the watch.
