Samsung has released a major update to the Samsung Health app that makes Sleep Coaching quicker to begin and gives runners more room to progress. The idea behind coaching is that sleep tracking tells you how you slept, while coaching turns your goals and data into daily habits that help you sleep better.

Samsung Health makes Sleep Coaching easier to start and adds more levels for runners 1

For Sleep Coaching, now you just need 3 days of data from the past 2 weeks, instead of the previous seven days within a month. The setup works like this:

  1. You complete a survey on sleep regularity, interruptions, alcohol and caffeine intake, and how satisfied you feel with your sleep.
  2. Using those answers plus three days of sleep data, the app assigns you a personalised Sleep Animal symbol.
  3. It then builds a tailored four- to eight-week coaching program based on your goals.
  4. As you progress, the program adapts its weekly recommendations to your changing sleep patterns, daily sleep satisfaction, and lifestyle shifts.

Drawing on behavioural sleep science, the program offers daily habit checklists and tips, such as avoiding screens an hour before bed, skipping late caffeine, and stretching outdoors after waking up.

Reporting also gets an upgrade. A new pentagon-shaped Sleep Balance graph brings together five indicators (sleep time, sleep regularity, awake time during the night, sleep satisfaction, and Energy Score) for an at-a-glance view of trends and areas that may need attention. Morning insight messages review the previous night with tips, and they tie into the weekly and final reports.

As for Running Coach, there are more training tiers now while maintaining the personalization from a 12-minute running test or your historical running data. Workout data can be exported into share-ready templates for different social platforms, so you can post milestones, personal records, and route highlights.

And with Strava’s partnership, users can import favourite Strava Routes for running, trail running, and cycling directly into Samsung Health.

The upgrades will roll out progressively through Samsung Health app updates starting in October.
