It’s finally here – the AMD 7th generation AMD A-Series processors are now official! It was previously codenamed as Bristol Ridge, and it is now being renamed to as the next generation Excavator cores.
In comparison with Intel’s latest Kaby Lake announcement, they both aren’t that different when it comes to the direction they’re heading. Higher energy efficiency, focusing more on its integrated GPU, and supports 4K HEVC/VP9 codecs out of the box.
What’s surprising though, is the brand new AM4 socket. Finally, AMD is breaking off from their decade-old AM3+ motherboards and move on with the current tech. It supports 2400MHz DDR4 RAM, PCIe Gen 3, USB 3.1 Gen 2, NVMe, and SATA Express. Finally AMD is all caught up with their brand new AM4 platform!
In case you’re confused, the AM4 socket supports the upcoming Zen architecture processors too.
