Debuting together with the new M1 Pro/Max powered MacBook Pro is the 3rd generation Apple AirPods that carries premium features that are previously only available to the Pro and Max models.

By fully utilizing the power of the H1 chip together with an in-house acoustic system, the new AirPods can now bring over the Adaptive EQ that tunes audio frequency depending on the current angle and position it is being fitted inside a user’s ear and spatial audio by Dolby Atmos to be used in Apple Music, Movies and more together with dynamic head tracking to pinpoint the position of where the user is currently facing. The addition of the AAC-ELD codec means that it can capture and relay speech audio relatively easily and clear too. The setup and audio sharing experience has also been optimized to be one-touch only and allows a single iPhone or iPad to connect to 2 sets of AirPods/Pro/Max variants at the same time.

For hardware-based improvements, the force sensor previously debuted in the 2nd generation Airpods Pro for media control is now part of the new AirPods’s feature set. On the other hand, the battery life has also been slightly extended to a maximum of 6 hours listening and 4 hours talking with the charging case holding 4 full charges. It also has an IPX4 rating for both the earbuds and charging case to protect against sweating and water.

Pricing of New and Old

Apple Malaysia has tagged the 3rd gen AirPods at RM829 in which fellow fans will be able to access and place orders soon on the Apple Store.

On the brighter side things, 2nd gen AirPods has been downed to RM589 while the AirPods Pro remains at the same price of RM1,099 but now comes bundled with a MagSafe Charging Case. If you’re not keen on getting the latest and greatest, perhaps these slightly older products will make your buck worth more the bang.
