One of the most anticipated features announced at WWDC 2024 is the integration of AI – also known as Apple Intelligence – into iOS 18. It elevates the user experience but Apple said that it’s not going to be available in Europe due to the Digital Markets Act.
The Digital Markets Act (DMA), if you don’t know, is a regulation by the European Union. The goal is to prevent any big tech company from abusing their market power, like search engines, app stores, and messaging services.
Yet Apple said that European customers will not be able to access Apple Intelligence, iPhone Mirroring, and SharePlay Screen Sharing that are coming to iOS 18 – citing complications with the DMA.
All hope is not lost, as Apple did say that they are looking for ways to make it comply with the DMA, but probably at a later date.
We’ve talked about Apple Intelligence and all of the other features that come with iOS 18 – and to see EU customers not being able to enjoy these features on day 1 is quite a bummer.
