The civil war between fellow Android users in Malaysia about digital wallets comes to an end as Google Malaysia officially launches the Google Wallet platform in the country.
As a result of COVID-19 accelerating digital transformation which includes Malaysian using contactless payment and digital finance platforms more than ever in the past 2 years, the arrival of Google Wallet consolidates everything a netizen needs into the Google ecosystem where the main benefit of using them in any supported Android device is prioritized by many users.
But anyhow, cardholders of the following bank will be able to add their payment cards to Google Wallet and make payments with their Android phones or Wear OS devices starting right now:
- CIMB Bank (Mastercard Credit)
- Hong Leong Bank (Visa Credit, Mastercard Credit)
- Hong Leong Islamic Bank (Mastercard Debit)
- Public Bank (Visa Credit, Visa Debit)
Visa / Mastercard credit cards from HSBC and HSBC Amanah will be added in the coming months.
As December is the holiday season and the subsequent January welcomes Chinese New Year, Google Wallet users can also add boarding passes that display all the necessary information such as departure time and boarding gate.
Any changes will be reflected and updated onto the digital pass so one would not need to reprint in case of physical copies.
As of the time of writing, it only supports AirAsia tickets but Malaysia Airlines is coming in the near future.
The app is now available for download on the Google Play Store if you device doesn’t come with it by default.
