I don’t know what I’m going to call this. Is this a hands-on review or is it a full review? Either way, this is the new HONOR MagicBook 14. And since the company just released the HONOR MagicBook a while back, what’s new and what’s the difference when comparing both side by side?
Here are all the things that you need to know about this brand new HONOR MagicBook 14.
Technically, it’s the exact same laptop specs-wise. We still get that 14-inch IPS LCD screen with 1080p in resolution with a near-180° hinge, the exact same AMD Ryzen 5 3500U, 8GB of soldered RAM, and a very similarly-sized battery.
Now, I’ll still consider the AMD Ryzen 5 3500U to be a fantastic chip in today’s standards – but do keep it mind that it’s already considered a last-gen product. We have many new laptops that are using the new AMD Ryzen 5 4500U instead – like the ASUS VivoBook S14 M433.
Yet the SSD has also been shrunken from 512GB to 256GB. It made me scratch my head too – but yeah, the SSD is now half the capacity.
All the ports are also exactly the same.
What’s new here is the build quality. The new HONOR MagicBook 14 feels much better than the original HONOR MagicBook, and it looks classier too.
There is now chamfered edges around the entire perimeter of the lid, and it’s colored in blue.
And the bezels have changed too. It’s much thinner all around – except for the bottom – and the webcam is no longer at the top of the display. It is now located between the F6 and F7 keys, and you’ll have to press it for that camera to pop out.
Personally, I’m not a fan of this design at all. Seriously, this is not even a nose cam – it’s a chest cam. For someone who has a long body like me, you’ll see my chest more than my face.
Should you buy the HONOR MagicBook 14?
At the official retail price of RM2,499, the HONOR MagicBook 14 is still a surprisingly good deal. It’s not as good of a deal as the original HONOR MagicBook, but still a very good deal nonetheless.
I like the new overall aesthetics of the laptop, but the halved SSD capacity is a tough pill to swallow.
Either way, the HONOR MagicBook 14 is a good enough laptop for office work and for basic usages. If you want something more powerful, we have the ASUS VivoBook S14 M433 and also the VivoBook S15 S533.
