ASUS OLED family

So here’s a brand new Nova smartphone from Huawei. With it comes a few notable specs that raised our eyebrows. For the specs that it offers, it seems too good to be true – but it’s real. The Nova 5T is equipped with the company’s highest-end specs for just RM1,599.

Okay, so what’s the big deal with the Nova 5T, you might ask. That’s a perfectly valid question – and I think we should start off with the specs of this smartphone first.

ASUS Zenbook 14X OLED
  • 6.26-inch IPS LCD display with 1080p resolution
  • HiSilicon Kirin 980 chipset
  • 8GB RAM
  • 128GB storage (no microSD card slot)
  • Triple rear-facing cameras
    • Main: 48MP f/1.8
    • Ultrawide: 16MP f/2.2
    • Macro: 2MP f/2.4
    • Depth sensor
  • 32MP f/2.0 selfie camera
  • 3,750mAh battery
  • Android 9.0 Pie with EMUI 10

By looking at the specs itself… do you realize something particularly familiar? It’s having the exact same size with near-identical specs with the HONOR 20 that was launched not too long ago, yet undercutting the HONOR 20 while providing more RAM. Wow.

Even the camera configuration is the same. For the rear, you get a total of triple usable cameras with a depth sensor (which honestly, is redundant) and you also get a 32MP selfie camera from that cutout located the top left side of the IPS LCD screen.

And yes, it’s an IPS LCD screen. There is no under-display fingerprint scanner (which I like) and the Nova 5T has a side-mounted fingerprint scanner that doubles as the power button. Once again, just like the HONOR 20.

Though honestly, speaking, the Huawei Nova 5T is the HONOR 20 with a different name and a differently-designed back. If you want to find out how the Huawei Nova 5T actually feels and performs, might as well read our review of the HONOR 20 here, since it is pretty much the same thing.

Also, since the Nova 5T is priced exactly the same as the Xiaomi Mi 9T Pro, might as well take a look at that as well?
