In case you didn’t know, there’s a new OS in town to compete with Google’s Android, Apple’s iOS and Windows called the Jolla Sailfish. The phone’s preorder was just closed not long ago as it is already fully booked! Yes, it is that fast!

The OS was first going to be used on Nokia phones, but instead the designer, Jolla Oy, started off on his own and made Jolla. The OS is based on MeeGo operating system, but then again it is only under the hood as the user interface is totally different from anything we’ve seen.

First, check out the interface of the phone below.

Pretty neat, and the Jolla OS is open source, just like Android. So, if you’re a developer, you can port the Jolla OS to work on virtually any other devices.

What appeals me is that the Jolla smartphone that is made by Jolla themselves showed something beyond basic customization – something very personalized even to the physical aspect, unlike Android which only lets you customize based on the home launchers and custom ROMs.

The next video showed us how the entire interface – colour scheme and its design – changes with the back coloured back cover. Fashionistas be happy with all the coloured back covers to match up your accessories or whatever it is that you match it with.

One thing though I’m not too sure about the Jolla OS is the interaction with the software pretty much needs the users to go through a very steep learning curve with all the gestures to get to the designated places and whatnot. Still, it is a very sleek operating system!
