Apple just announced the brand new iPad Pro – which to my surprise, is something that I personally would really like to use. It’s somewhat like a Microsoft Surface laptop, but more ergonomic thanks to the new Magic Keyboard.
The new iPad Pro is a combination of a few things. It has high-performance that Apple claims “most PC laptops can’t catch up”, pro cameras so that your “laptop” can take beautiful pictures as well, and a bunch of accessories that work in tandem with the new iPad Pro.
The upcoming Magic Keyboard accessory – which Apple says is coming in May – has a built-in trackpad. That gives us a more traditional user experience that we’ve been accustomed to. Also, this new Magic Keyboard is technically a cover case as well.
The iPad Pro snaps to the Magic Keyboard via magnets, and the iPad Pro itself “floats”. Thanks to the hinged design on the Magic Keyboard, the iPad Pro is not propped up by the case, which is in stark contrast with the Microsoft Surface. We can also adjust the iPad Pro to “float” at whichever angle we want.
I have to say, Apple’s approach is much more ergonomic than anything we have seen so far. There’s also another USB-C port at the hinge itself that charges the iPad Pro! Brilliant!
As for the pricing, there are no Malaysian prices as of now. the new iPad Pro starts at $799, whereby the Magic Keyboard comes in two different prices:
- 11-inch iPad Pro Magic Keyboard @ $299
- 12.9-inch iPad Pro Magic Keyboard @ $349
It’s a steep price, but I have to admit – Apple’s engineering for the Magic Keyboard is looking great here.
