The Logitech G500s was a top-notch all-purpose gaming mouse, but Logitech G502 Proteus Core surpasses it in every way. Being the first mouse that has a staggering 12,000 DPI and is particular interesting to us and because of it, this should be an ideal mouse for 4K gaming.
This device has a finely-tuneable optical sensor that working flawlessly on different kind of surface like timber, laminate and steel as well as standard mouse pad materials; not to forget its five chevron-shaped 3.6g weights, its 11 programmable buttons, in-game DPI shifting and dual mouse wheel modes. The box also shows you what amazing quality you’re going to get too.

Logitech G502 makes smart design choices at every possible opportunity, offering a comfortable experience for players who use a palm grip and exceptional feel for players who use a claw grip.
A rubberized thumb rest on its sides offered comfortable respite and the grip for the outermost fingers are textured, providing both stability and a pleasant tactile sensation.
The great design however becomes problematic is with the close proximity of the left-mouse and DPI up and down buttons, as it is very easy to click those buttons accidentally while you are in a life-or-death situation in Battlefield and I can assure that it will definitely take a toll on your gaming performance a lot. Logitech’s signature dual-mode scroll-wheel that switches between frictionless, hyper-fast scrolling and a basic tactile and click-to-click scrolling can be changed by using a mechanical micro switch located just south of the scroll wheel. While hyper-fast scrolling may be the preferred choice while scrolling through long walls of texts or spreadsheets, the click-to-click option gives gamers switching weapons in games with an audible and tactile feedback that their action was registered.
DPI, for those who doesn’t keep track of these terms that pop up all over, means dots per inch. It’s a measurement of how sensitive a mouse’s sensor is; and the Proteus Core helps you to be an unstoppable force in low or high DPI. Shift through five DPI settings, from headshot-precise 200 DPI targeting to lightning-fast 12,000 DPI maneuvers – at least that’s what Logitech claims on their website, and I find it particularly true with the in-game DPI switch. Setting a mouse at 12,000 dpi which is the higher DPI setting means you don’t have to move the mouse far for your cursor to travel further across the screen.
Another change is the design of the adjustable weight system, which was rather funny. Rather than an ejectable canister where all the weights are slotted as on the G500s, the Proteus Core has a magnetic door on its underside, hiding spots for five of the included 3.6-gram weights.
It keeps the center of gravity low, or can even let you adjust it depending on where you put those weights at. Without any of the additional weights, the mouse is 121 grams, which is lighter than the G500s. I feel that 121 grams isn’t too heavy, but as a gamer I would like the mouse to as light as possible for quick reaction, but that’s my personal preference.
Also, the weights come in a very nice but flimsy hexagonal-shaped case for storage.
Here is some of the additional features of Proteus Core:
- 32-bit microcontroller

Gamer who’s like first person shooting games will appreciate the DPI shifting when changing from fast-paced action to slower more precise sniping. This feature allows gamers to make the right move with up to five DPI settings that range anywhere from the pixel-precise 200 DPI to a lightning-fast 12,000 DPI. But most people simply don’t need that high DPI for normal daily uses, and don’t change mouse surfaces on a regular basis.
