We’ve all seen a huge amount of wireless mice from manufacturers of the biggest brands and even ridiculous designs by unnamed Chinese manufacturers. I mean, seriously – there are imitations everywhere, some are their own imaginations, and yet nearly all of them had no quality control. Logitech however attempts to redefine mobile wireless mouse with their M-series mice, and we happen to have the M280.
How does it fare?
This is what I truly love about Logitech’s approach for the packaging. At first sight, it uses the ever annoying clam shell. At least the clamshell plastic is molded to the shape of the mouse – so that I was able to get a feel of it at hand. The packaging is pretty simple too – the mouse, and the receiver. Done.
Things does change when I flip the packaging.

No, it’s added value.
After opening the packaging and taking out the M280, I was presented with the simplest of all packaging – a small USB receiver, the M280 itself, and has an included AA battery inside.

First of all, the M280 is a little larger compared to the other mice within the M-series mice. The mouse is definitely made for only right-handed users as the ergonomic of the M280 is made this way.
The thumb rest has this textured rubber material that it is definitely comfortable to use. However, I did find the missing back/forward buttons at the thumb area definitely felt like I was missing a limb.
Over to the other side of the mouse, the same textured rubber material can be found. I just can’t describe how good this material is. It’s comfortable. Period. Dirty might get stuck inside over time, but a wet tissue can solve the problem instantly.
Over at the top side of the mouse, there is a large piece of plastic with matte colour paint on it that feels great yet doesn’t leave any grease marks from the fingers. Then there’s a heavily textured scroll wheel that sadly doesn’t have side clicks too. The wheel click however feels satisfying.
Then comes the left and right click buttons. These two buttons are underneath somewhere near the end of the plastic piece. It’s large enough to accommodate finger placement variations – and Logitech made the M280 to have a somewhat natural and comfortable placement of fingers on the two buttons.
Which brings us to the grip of the mouse.

I decided to hold the mouse in four different ways just to show how the mouse fits on my relatively large hands. Of course, in this test I’m comparing the M280 which is made for mobile warriors with large mice like the Gigabyte M6880 and the mouse from Microsoft’s Wireless Desktop 3000 combo.
That shown, I generally hold my mouse in a rather different way because of my mousepad.
Even though my wrist is lifted and the small size of the mouse leaves a large gap between my palm and the M280 itself, it actually feels really great. Gamers will know that this gap is actually the best for games that require quick and rapid movements without lifting the mouse entirely entire. In my case, I retract my fingers and move the mouse around quickly. Feels great, works great.
[nextpage title=”Wrap up”]Well, surely the M280 has its shortcomings, but it is definitely up to your own personal preferences. Lack of back/forward buttons is a big no-no for me personally, and scroll wheel side clicks is also something I use quite often – but again, it’s up to you personally.
The mouse is also available in 3 colours – pure black, pure red, and pure blue. Personally, I prefer the red colour too – striking and banyak ong. The only problem I realized with the black coloured mouse is that I can’t find it under poorly lit conditions in my room – it has the same colour as my mousepad.
Is this mouse worthy for the price of only RM59? Answer is a solid yes – if you don’t care about back/forward buttons and scroll wheel side clicks and want a strikingly coloured, reasonably sized wireless mouse on the go, then the M280 is most definitely for you.
If you’ll excuse me, it’s time for me to turn off the M280, put the receiver behind the battery door, and then chuck it into my bag and bring it out with me.
