We’ve seen quite a lot of novelty products over the years and one of the most handy product we have seen is the Orico MH4PU. By looking at the specs, it is nothing more than a 4-port USB 3.0 hub. However, the product’s specialty is the versatility on how you can mount the hub itself.
We also have a quick video here highlighting the Orico MH4PU’s simple yet brilliant design that makes it worth buying.
The Orico MH4PU comes in a simple packaging that just works. It is a 4-port USB 3.0 hub that has a strong aluminium alloy metal body. Of course, there are some lining inside to prevent direct metal contact and prevent scratches.
At the back of the packaging we can see the specs list of the Orico MH4PU itself.
Opening up the package reveals the Orico MH4PU hub and also a 1 meter long USB 3.0 type-A male to type-A male cable.
The Orico MH4PU itself
The entire Orico MH4PU comes in a silvery color, which matches Macs – especially the iMac.
At the back of the Orico MH4PU, it has a red colored USB port. This is an uplink port which you have to connect the included cable.
At the front is where we’ll see the USB 3.0 Type-A ports. There is also a status indicator LED at the center which lights up in green when it is ready to go.
From what we can tell, it has a rubber lining on the screw tip and also the inside itself. Since many other monitors and tables are made out of plastic and wood, having this rubber lining can prevent scratches while improving grip.
We tried screwing it to our table and monitors which instantly enhanced our quality of life since we can mount this hub to somewhere more reachable. Also, it added value to our monitor which does not have any USB ports.
However, mounting it on our monitor does feel a bit odd in terms of design and color coherency as most monitors are made from plastic and in black color. Having a piece of silver colored slab on the monitor might seem weird and might be distracting for some. But then again, just mount it elsewhere if it is distracting.
Another limitation of the Orico MH4PU is the maximum supported width. It can only support up to 32mm. For thicker tables like my IKEA MALM desk, then it is just impossible to mount the Orico MH4PU on it.
However, if your table is too thin, you can take a piece of paper and fold it to add some thickness to the table.
Wrapping up the Orico MH4PU review
The Orico MH4PU is a really, really simple device – no doubt about that. However, the novelty is that it can improve your quality of life with your computer by having it clipped somewhere more convenient.
And for those who uses laptops and wish to just have a mouse and keyboard connected with just a single USB cable, then the Orico MH4PU can do that as well.
For the price of just RM59 over at Orico’s official store at Shopee, the MH4PU is indeed one of the most useful piece of tech that I have right now.
