Today’s big news is that Taobao finally has an English interface. After so many years, it’s finally here, even though it is still in beta. However, there are some restrictions that we have to talk about.
Taobao, the famous Chinese online marketplace finally has an English interface. If you’re new to the Taobao app, then it’ll immediately ask you what language do you want when launching the app for the first time.
If you’re already a Taobao user who wishes to switch over to the English interface, then you can head into the settings menu and change it there. It’s rather straightforward.
We can even change the currency to MYR, then the prices will be converted to Malaysian Ringgit and written below the Yuan pricing. Very convenient and friendly for Malaysians.
It is especially more convenient since Taobao also leverages on AliPay, which means we can pay using either Lazada Wallet or through TnG. They’re all using AliPay.
Now, there are some restrictions when it comes to the English interface. Firstly, the livestream section is entirely removed in the English interface. This makes sense since those livestreams are going to be in Mandarin anyway.
Secondly, the interface is only available for phones as of now. I tried installing the Taobao app on the Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra – and there is no option to change it to English. I’m not sure why that is – perhaps the English interface isn’t ready for tablets yet.
Either way, it’s going to be spicing up the e-commerce world again as Taobao is opening its doors to people who can’t read Chinese (me included). My only question is – what took you so long????
