Xiaomi – the Chinese phone manufacturers who first started off as a software developer, namely the MIUI ROM, expanded to hardware and formed the Xiaomi company. After that, they were focused on making the latest and greatest with the cheapest price tag – but only in Mainland China.
After 4 years since its inception, Xiaomi has now expanded to multiple countries – Singapore and Malaysia included. Today, Xiaomi launched their Mi3 in Malaysia and alongside with their power bank, alongside with some hints on future devices to be available in Malaysia.

We already have the Redmi sold some months ago, and now it’s the official launch where the Mi3 comes on for sale at only RM889. That’s a very low price for some of the most amazing specs, including :
- Quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 8274AB @ 2.3GHz with Adreno 330 GPU
- 5-inch IPS LCD display with 1080p resolution
- 13MP rear-facing camera (28mm f2.2, dual LED flash), 2MP front-facing camera
- 3050mAh battery
- Uses a normal SIM size, SIM adapter provided
So when is it available for the Malaysians to purchase?
The answer is TOMORROW. 20th May 2014 at 12.00pm.
You can only make the purchase online from the Xiaomi’s website, and Xiaomi Malaysia posted a complete guide on how to make the purchase! Check it out!
Same goes to the Xiaomi power bank. It’s beautiful, solid and has 10400mAh battery with its cells made by Samsung or LG, so fret not – it’ll not explode.
The power bank only has one output port, which outputs 2.1A current to your device – what it means is that you will charge your device very quickly.
The price for this power bank? Only RM36. I really recommend you to buy it.
Also, the power bank supports passthrough charging – that is you can charge your power bank and your device at the same time – that is by connecting your device to the power bank, and the power bank to the charger.
That way, you don’t have to lug around that many chargers.
Local telcos have also announced that they are going to have plans for the Xiaomi devices – that is by DiGi, Maxis, and Celcom.
There’s also a hint that the Redmi 1S is coming as soon as June.
Of course, since Xiaomi is officially in Malaysia now, they have a toll-free service hotline for you to call.
The phone number is 1-800-28-1182.
They also have a Malaysian theme for the MIUI ROM that’s very beautiful yet minimalist! Check it out here! If you’re interested, get it from the MIUI forum thread here!
There are also a few other things that was shown in the event, but no word availability or pricing in Malaysia yet.

That’s it for this time from Xiaomi. Stay tuned for more!
