So here is what has happened today – ASUS did 3 things, announced the new Fonepad 8 (FE380CG), the MeMO Pad 8 (ME581CL), and gave us an exclusive look at the upcoming PadFone S.

The all new Fonepad 8 will feature some of the most exciting improvements that is to be seen in the Fonepad series. Pictures do speak a thousand words, so let’s tell a picture story this time.
The new Fonepad 8 will be available in black, white, red, and even in gold colour. Some stylish colours right here.
New FonePad 8 will feature a slight bump in resolution – making it 1280×800 pixels on an amazing IPS panel display that can have its brightness go up to 400 nits – meaning that you can use this Fonepad 8 outdoors without any issues at all.
Main highlight is obviously on the all-new Intel processor for mobile devices. It supports 64-bits before Android even does, and it is upgradable to Android L. 64-bit processors give a few benefits even if you’re not using beyond 4GB RAM – also shows a significant improvement in performance too.
Dual front-facing speakers too. This baby is loud, and it sounds absolutely fantastic!
The best part of this FonePad 8 – it costs only RM649, and it is available for sale this week.
Next up, the all new MeMO Pad 8 (ME581CL) that dropped jaws across the audience today.
Though it might sound like this is just another 8-inch tablet, the MeMO Pad 8 packs a full HD screen that can go up to 400 nits brightness, and it uses Corning Gorilla Glass 3.
The MeMO Pad 8 ME581CL is even capable of 4G LTE CAT 4. That’s some serious speed right here – 100 mega bits per second!
The first thing that dropped jaws – at least mine, was the design. It is very slim and definitely very light. This direct competition might even be posing a threat to the iPad Air 2’s rumour of being the slimmest tablet of all times.
Then there’s this. This particular thing – magical, as what I will call it, is a very magnificent feat that ASUS managed to pull off – just like the PixelMaster camera.
Technically, this feature lets you do this : writing on the screen just like you do naturally on a piece of paper with any pen (or pencil, actually). The sheet of glass on top of the display panel isn’t particularly a tough piece of glass – it’s slightly bendable even with some excessive force from the finger.
This feature was shown and tested to be working by using a graphite pencil to write on the screen itself. ASUS even stated that this feature will only work with any metal-tipped pen or lead pencil with radius of 0.75mm or more. So, be aware of what you are using!
It’s even capable of doing split screen for multi window view. Neat!
You might think – all these night things must cost a lot, but ASUS did a few favourable things for us here in Malaysia and priced it only at RM1099. Absolute no-brainer deal if you are looking for a tablet!
This all-new MeMO Pad 8 ME581CL will be available at the end of October! Get your pencils ready if you are reading over to test this tablet out for yourself!
Then comes the exclusive look on the upcoming PadFone S.
I myself have been a very big fan of the PadFone series, though there are much more to be improved – and it seems like ASUS is taking note of those issues and is actually doing something about it.
The new PadFone S’s phone will have some magnificent top-tiered specs, featuring a 5-inch 1080p IPS display with 4G LTE CAT4 capability. Apparently though, ASUS did drop tests at 150cm for this phone. The Station itself will have dual front-facing speakers too. Finally!
The camera is absolutely amazing while shown on paper, and most definitely blown us away when the sample images taken by the PadFone S was shown. Obviously I can’t show those pictures here because the image quality has degraded drastically while captured through the projector’s screen.
The price for the phone alone? It amazed me. It amazed the entire audience.
RM899 for the phone alone. Absolutely amazing. There is no word on how much the Stations is for now, but the price is said to be about RM500, and is sold separately from the phone itself. Total that up and you’ll end up somewhere between RM1399. Still, not bad at all.
As this is an exclusive look at the engineering set, never take these pictures you see here as the final design of the PadFone S. It is still subject to change in design, so see these pictures and take it with a pinch of salt.
