DSC_4700 copySony came a long way with their first announcement of the iconic Walkman that changed the entire world. Thanks to that, we now have portable music-listening!

After that happened, Sony strived to provide better audio for everyone. Let’s take a quick overview of the new Sony Hi-Res Audio products that was announced.

Starting off with the MDR-Z7 headphones, it has huge 70mm audio drivers, a supremely wide frequency range of 4-100,000Hz, and is using aluminium-coated liquid crystal polymer diaphragms. The MDR-Z7 is a pair of headphones that Sony tried to provide the best soundstage with.

Them drivers though.

Next is the the XBA-Z5 headphones, which I wouldn’t probably call it as a pair of headphones, since it is worn over the ears.

XBA-Z5_with_MUC-M1BT1-1200This is a pair of in-ear monitors that has the ear-wire loop pre-made so that you don’t have to awkwardly position the wires each time you wear them. This pair of earphones has a magnesium HD super tweeter, 16mm aluminium-coated LCP dynamic driver, and provides a frequency range of 3-40,000Hz.

Then comes the MDR-1A headphones, which deliver a wider range of frequency from 3-100,000Hz range and has separated left and right side cables to reduce cross talk (interference from other wires due to electromagnetism) and with an extremely wide but comfortable yet wide piece of ear cushions to go alongside with some high-resolution sound.

What about the MDR-1ADAC headphones? It has integrated DAC converter over USB, with support of DSD, PCM 192kHz and is also 24-bits compatible. Featuring 40mm aluminium-coated LCP, it produces an audio frequency range of 4-100,000Hz!

Not to forget – the ear cushions are huge too!

Then comes the PHA-3 portable headphone amplifier with build-in USB DAC.

DSC_4731 copyHere comes the a portable amplifier that works over USB through the phone. Amazingly it also has upscaling technology to convert compressed files to CD quality. If you have uncompressed audio, it can output DSD and also 32-bit 384kHz audio. The dedicated digital connection is made for Sony’s own Walkman, Xperia phones, and all of the iDevices.

If you’re looking for something with a good grip on the ear with splash-proof capabilities, then this MDR-AS800BT will be for you. It can be worn in two ways – over or around the neck, and has an arc that goes along the natural trough of the ears.

If you love bass then you’ll love these this headphone that Sony launched.

The MDR-XB950BT is something that Sony created for bass lovers – with a dedicated Bass Boost button to change the entire frequency response of this pair of headphones. If that’s not enough, it works wirelessly too – and has NFC for easy pairing. Then, control the media with the media control rocker to play/pause, previous and next track.

For ANC lovers, this is a headphone that Sony promised that it can reduce up to 90% of the ambient noise. Product 1

It has all the same features as the MDR-XB950BT, but without the bulk. Also, some people might love this more than the MDR-XB950BT as you might prefer your ear pinna to be pressed in instead of having the ear pads covering around it.

Sony even announced a lot of Walkman products.

DSC_4744 copyThe AS10 is an amazingly lightweight and small audio player that has up to 50 hours of MP3 playback and 30 hours of high-res audi. You can even expand its storage with a microSD card. then, put in thousands of MP3 songs because it has upscaling of compressed audio to CD quality.

It is also available in 4 different colours too. Black, white, red, and blue. Your choice.

Lastly is the wireless over-the-neck pair of earphones, the Sony NWZ-WS615.

It comes bundled with the small remote media controller that is worn on the finger. It is amazingly lightweight and small, yet waterproof – so you can wear these even when you are swimming!

Pair these audio babies together with NFC and you’re good to go. Seriously, Sony did a great job for including NFC in everything just to cut the process of pairing through Bluetooth. Bluetooth is frustrating and it is just so inferior without the help of NFC.
