“It’s going to be a very good Omen”, that’s what you might say. I will most definitely say “yes, you are absolutely right!” because the HP Omen is a gaming laptop that stands high – tall and proud, among the sea of other gaming laptops. How about the Stream? It’s the only type of laptop I’ll bring to my classes everyday.
Omen
The Omen packs the latest and greatest hardware onto a super thin piece of aluminium chassis – even the lid of the 15.6-inch 1920×1080 resolution touchscreen is aluminium. You get the latest 4th generation Intel i7-4710HQ processor with 16GB of DDR3L RAM clocked at 1600MHz and 512GB of SSD goodness. Let’s also not forget the NVIDIA GeForce GTX860M graphics card that has a massive 4GB of dedicated memory. This is sufficient even if you want to output Assassin’s Creed Unity to a larger 4K TV to game on.
Now, what really caught my attention is how HP paid attention to what users want and what users don’t. Many other gaming laptops vowed to keep the laptop thicker so more plastic can be used, but included an unnecessary optical disk drive to justify the extra thickness needed for cooling. HP used an aluminium unibody, then removed the nearly-obsolete optical disk drive to make it as thin as 19.9mm,yet keeping it cool. Also, it weighs only 2.12kg. That’s nearly two-thirds of my current laptop!
Oh – there’s also 6 programmable function keys and a customizable backlit keyboard with 7 zones. The Beats Audio speakers also has this multicolour lightning, and can be customized to respond to audio from games, music, or movies.
Thin, light, powerful yet beautiful. HP launched this gaming laptop to be an exclusively premium gaming laptop for the masses priced at RM6,999. Might be a large sum if you look at it now, but compared to its competitors, this isn’t really that bad of a deal at all.

Stream
Let’s face it – no matter how powerful your laptop is, you’re not going to bring it to class everyday if you are given the choice. Seriously, the weight just doesn’t justify the practicality sometimes if you’re only going to use it for half an hour. Or maybe carrying it from your workplace back home to continue on some time-critical problems.
HP wants you to change that with their all new Stream laptops. Packed with an Intel Celeron processor with 32GB of magical solid state storage, one can say that the Stream is a minimalistic laptop. Yeah, actually it doesn’t even have fans to keep it cool.
Available in two sizes – 11.6-inch or 13.3-inch, the Stream comes with either Orchid Magenta or Horizon Blue to bring out the style in you. This will surely catch some attention in class, or even your crush.
As both devices are available for sale in 1st of January 2015, the price however caught my attention the most as the 11.6-inch version costs only RM1,099, whereas the 13.3-inch version costs RM1,199 only. That’s a huge bargain – and hey, you even get 1TB of Office 365 Personal 1-year subscription included in the price. Wow.
