It’s been an interesting time when Alienware first announced their all new approach with the gaming hardware scene – especially for the gaming notebooks segment.
Every single year, it has been the same – one new update of the gaming laptop comes out, and your current multi-thousand-dollar gaming laptop just got outdated. Time to spend another multi-thousand-dollar for a new one, right?
Not on their new watch. No, not their Rolex, their new clock for a gaming laptop’s lifespan.
All new Alienware 15 and 17 had quite a bit of overhaul in terms of how things work, even for the Alienware 13. For the prices of an Alienware gaming laptop these days, you can opt for not-so-high-end graphic cards without regretting.
One thing I’m glad that Alienware realizes is how fast graphic cards get outdated but not all the other hardware. Thus, they brought in a solution – the Graphics Amplifier.
Yeah, the Graphics Amplifier is compatible with their all new Alienware 13, 15, and also 17. It’s cross-compatible, and fits long graphic cards without any problem. Also, a dedicated power supply and another fan to power and cool that monstrous card.
It’s amazing to see some pioneers heading towards this direction, as I am very, very keen in knowing what’s next this sort of more practical type of prolonged gaming notebook lifespan solutions. As for the prices, they are listed as below.
Alienware 13 : RM4,099
Alienware 15 : RM4,999
Alienware 17 : RM6,299
Graphics Amplifier : RM1,099
All the above will be available over at Dell’s website starting March 2015!
Sadly there isn’t any available bundles to get any of the new Alienware laptops alongside with the Graphics Amplifier at a discount. However my wishing thinking is that we could maybe get a gaming notebook + Graphics Amplifier + bundled high-end graphics card at a low price???
As for how this type of solution might hold up – who knows? Maybe the old-school type of IBM notebook docking stations will make a comeback – but this time, docking onto a piece of furniture with your AC supply, graphics card, larger hard disks, and DisplayPort cables are hooked up too?
