Here’s my dilemma and also motivation to try out the dbrand skin – I am tired to phone cases. Most of them are just ugly, bulky, and/or plain expensive to the point where it’s just daylight robbery. Oh – don’t get me started on how phone cases block port access and degrades the power and volume presses.
Now, I did publish a post on my shopping experience for the dbrand skins here, which you can check out, and it has been months since I’ve been using that particular dbrand skin that I’ve ordered. I’ll tell you my entire experience with it – including the installation, durability, and how difficult it is to peel off. There’s also a video at the end where I show off some of the aspects of the dbrand skin.
[nextpage title=”Installation”]Here’s the deal – I got the skins, and was pretty clueless on how to install. Luckily though, dbrand provides device-specific how-to-install videos. Complete with all the variations – for example is the Nexus 6, where dbrand offers the back skin with or without the nexus logo cutout, or only with the X. It’s just amazing.
Anyway, the installation was a breeze, and the installation got everything covered, and so is my phone. The cuts were precise, and everything is just excellent. No words can describe the precision except for the pictures below.
One small thing to note – it might look like a part of the front-facing camera got covered, but it’s actually due to the lighting condition that this photo is took under.
Everything is just beautiful.
[nextpage title=”Look and feel”]I ordered the mahogany skin in particular, because I like the darker brown colour in wood. What I didn’t expect was the real tree bark-like texture on the skin. Supremely impressive.
So here’s the thing – the installation process was a breeze. Then I became skeptical about the edge wrapping become undone upon friction with my pockets.
To my surprise, the edge wraps in beautifully and there is absolutely no parts of the edges becoming undone – not even the bulge in the camera. The best part is not even any dust or lint gathering at the edges at all!
The dust and lint however still gathers at the 90 degree cut on the four corners of the screen, and also at the OnePlus logo at the back. Those dust however can be removed easily by just rubbing them off with a piece of cloth.
And oh – I got the OnePlus One skin with no capacitive touch buttons cutout. To my surprise, the buttons actually still works with absolutely no issue.
So here’s the skin mahogany skin on the OnePlus One. After using it for months, there are a little grease marks on the areas where I usually rest my fingers there. Those marks however can be cleaned off easily by wiping.
One thing that really impresses me is how scratch resistant this skin is. Here’s the scenario – I place my phone on tables and scratch on the table every single day. Even after months of using it, there are absolutely no scratch marks on it at all. Just plain amazing.
The sides?
Everything is just awesome. No part of the edge is coming off, and the skin was in tip-top condition even after so many months.
[nextpage title=”Wrap up”]So here’s the bottom line – dbrand skins are just pretty amazing – especially for its price. However, the shipping to Malaysia is a tad expensive if you select the premium one, and the risky shipping method had a pretty scary description, as dbrand said it might get lost. I did select the risky shipping, and that took about 6 weeks for it to reach me.
Would I recommend the dbrand skin? Surely!
Is the price worth it? A lot cheaper than many phone cases actually, and it does the same thing while keeping the same dimensions of the device.
One big problem – the screen protector. I wish it was better, as the screen quality got degraded, scratched very easily, and the second screen protector that I applied didn’t fit well on the screen cutout at all. Here’s a video showing off some of the things I showcased here.
Will you get the dbrand skin? It’s up to you entirely. Do you like the phone’s original design but still want to protect the device? This be for you.
