We’ve seen small multimedia speakers for laptop users who want a more compared to their built-in laptop speakers – and we know most laptop speakers are horrifying to the ears. Understanding that, SonicGear made a speaker – the Quatro 2 – a multimedia 2.0 speaker.
Packaging
We’ve seen the packaging from the Quatro V not long ago, and this speaker is certainly similar from its elder brother. With the same design language across the entire box, there isn’t much to mention.
Opening the lid, there is a full user manual on the flap itself. This is also done on the Quatro V, which I say good job – Mother Earth will be proud. Going fully paperless.
Removing everything from the box, there is only two big pieces of plastic wrapping up both speaker satellites, an in-line volume control knob, and a USB/audio jack combo connecting both together.

As mentioned, there is an in-line volume control with a nice brushed aluminium finish. Also, there’s a small, blue power indicator light beside the circular knob.
I’ve said it before and I will say it again – SonicGear did a great job in creating the inclination of both the satellites. The last time I described on the Quatro V, it seems like there is confusion on what I said.
A slight incline on the speaker will have its sound propagating slightly upwards and towards your ears, not your chest. This will make it sound a little louder too.
[nextpage title=”Performance”]Compared to the Quatro V, the Quatro 2 sounds surprisingly more well-rounded. It’s not as bassy, and the highs sound surprisingly well. Listening to songs like BBC Big Band’s In The Mood definitely got me in the mood. The highs sound good, and not overwhelmed by the mids or lows.
The bass is barely felt and not punchy at all. Mids sound very good in general listening test, and highs sound a lot more better than the Quatro V. I enjoyed music from this speaker, and the in-line volume gave a very good range of loudness to select.
Other than that, I have to say that the Quatro 2 is very loud – as in the volume can get way too loud for a bedroom. However I’m not complaining, because that’s what the volume knob is for. Also, the sound quality
I love the small and portable the SonicGear Quatro 2. I really do. It’s small, sounds amazing, USB-powered, and has a 3.5mm audio jack. Compared to the Quatro V, the only sacrifice you’re making is the independence of a separate device due to the lack of a USB port and micro SD card slot.
However, the Quatro 2 only costs RM26. That’s nearly half of the already-low-priced Quatro V.
The Quatro 2 is definitely the most worthy small speaker for a small office, or your table. If you have absolutely no idea what to get for your friend’s birthday, the SonicGear Quatro 2 is also a very good choice.
