Racing seats, or gaming chairs as it is known now, are getting more and more abundant. Gone are the days where DX Racer and AK Racing are the dominant brands. Surprisingly, there are many other brands for these gaming chairs available in the market already. Most of them are new, and there are no reviews of those brands available online. That said, I reached out to the brand new, Genesis Gear and here’s my review of the entire chair.

The box comes in a fairly large box, with the necessary details of its contents. I’d say the packaging is fairly strong to begin with – as it has an insane mass of 21kg. Keep this in mind if you’re ever going to bring it upstairs (like me).

All of its contents are packed rather nicely in the box itself, and assembly process was fairly simple. Took about an hour at most, except for two small side pieces that cover up the metal panels on both sides. Here’s a short video on the unboxing, assembly, and first look on the Genesis Gear chair itself.

Packaging

It’s insane. They packed everything in this box, and it weighs 21kg. Box itself looks rather typical – but that’s okay. It does tell all of the necessary information right on the box itself. Also, the website isn’t ready for its prime time yet, so just chill for a moment.

[nextpage title=”Build Quality”]

I have to say, it’s fantastic. I’ve tested some DX Racer and AK Racing chairs in the past, and I have a rough idea on how it feels.

Genesis Gear chair is built with metal frames all around – just like the other high-end brands. It does come with some very nice caster wheels too. Actually, they’re exactly the same wheels used on AK Racing chairs.

These wheels are really nice too – not only in terms of aesthetics, but practicality. They’re really light, and rolls around effortlessly.

I assembled the base and wheels first, and I realized that they’re really light. Personally speaking, I’m surprised by how smooth these wheels actually are, considering that the entire Genesis Gear chair weighs in at 21kg.

Without anyone sitting on it, the Genesis Gear chair can roll around quite effortlessly already. Yet, the wheels do roll according to where you push it to go. Again, they’re really smooth. It makes the entire weight of the chair feels weightless. Even when I’m sitting on the chair itself, the Genesis Gear chair can roll around with very little friction. What’s even better is the wheel itself – it doesn’t scratch the floor, and it’s just way too smooth. I probably mentioned that the wheels are smooth for way too many times, to be honest.

Has some nice colour accents on the base too.Has some nice colour accents on the base too.

As the entire Genesis Gear chair is covered with high quality PU leather too, and its stitches will need to be perfect. Genesis Gear chair got this really nicely, actually. Other than that, there are two pieces of carbon fiber on the each side around the thigh area. Not sure why, but it definitely looks fantastic.

The only small complaint I have is the lumbar support pillow. It does lock in fairly tightly and doesn’t move around, yet it has the shape that does what’s it suppose to do – but it’s a little too thick in my opinion. Once the lumbar support pillow is in, it just feels too cramped up. There isn’t much space left to put on butt on.

Also, there’s a little upward-facing hook-like bar at the knee part where it feels absolutely uncomfortable if thta area is pressed on. Also, the chair can obviously be wiped clean, but there’s no way for you to open to zipper and access the internal fillings or whatever sort.

On the other hand, the head pillow is perfection. Snap it into place, and rest. Feels absolutely fantastic.

[nextpage title=”Features”]

In terms of its features though, anything the high-end chairs have, Genesis Gear chair has them too. Comparing the Genesis Gear chair with others though, there are some interesting points to be highlighted.

I find it rather funny, because Genesis Gear chair costs  a fraction of what the other bigger brands cost, but doesn’t really offer much, to be honest. Each of them has their own pros and cons, but from my perspective I think Genesis Gear is the most balanced.

There is one small complaint about the chair though – and that’s the screws included. I had to dig out my own screw to secure the side piece, because the ones included just aren’t long enough. I did tell Genesis Gear about this issue, and they’re well aware of it. Apparently, they were already working on a fix.

That 3D armrest is the absolute best feature that any chair can have. With my TKL keyboard, I can distance my setup away from the wall a little more, making it way more comfortable to use. That multifunctional mechanism that’s stated however is actually a height and its tilt too. There’s one lever to control the height, and another to control the tilt of the entire mechanism.

Oh let’s not forget one of the important features here – you can actually sleep on the chair itself. That’s right – even famous reclining feature on expensive gaming chairs are on the Genesis Gear chair.

Great job for the Genesis Gear chair!

[nextpage title=”Wrap Up”]

In conclusion – is the Genesis Gear chair worth it? I’d say it’s definitely worth it. I paid for nearly half of what other similar gaming chairs cost. NEARLY HALF!

I have no idea how they’ve done it, but I’m glad it exists. They bring gaming chairs to the masses with all the features that everyone is seeking for, and priced it at a fraction of the price. Is it worth it? For me personally, I’d say it’s a good investment – and I’ve had it for almost a month already.

It did fix my sitting posture, and damn this chair can fit some bigger-sized person without any issue too. Actually, it’s so comfortable that I found myself sleeping on it much more often than my previous IKEA chair. Imagine this – whenever I’m sleepy, just reach out to the lever on the right hand side, push my back against the chair and pull the lever. Then close my eyes and sleep.

And Genesis Gear chair is only available on leather too. High quality PU leather, that is. It means that if I sweat a lot or have food crumbs on the chair, I can just wipe it off. If my OCD is triggered, I can partially disassemble it to give it a full wipe. Still gonna be clean.

Anyway, if you’re interested in getting a Genesis Gear chair for yourself, do check out their Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/GenesisGear/. They’re having a promotion now where it only costs RM899 instead of the retailing RM1,099.

I got mine with same day delivery too. Maybe it’s because I live quite near to them, or I’m just really lucky. Either way, I’m glad I got the Genesis Gear chair for my butt.
