It’s… a rather straightforward name, in my opinion. Sony has an existing lineup of audio products under the name “EXTRA BASS” – with all caps of course, as that’s how Sony stylized it. Anyway, here are the new audio products that fall under Sony EXTRA BASS lineup.
Everything here are in the Sony EXTRA BASS lineup, so expect more bass from them, obviously. Not quite sure by how much more than usual, but it’s EXTRA. There are no pricing or availability for us here in Malaysia yet, but we’ll definitely keep you posted. So be subscribed to our alerts!
SRS-XB40, SRS-XB30, and SRS-XB20 Wireless Speakers
These are some fancy little portable wireless speakers. Generally, they all have the same aesthetics, but each of them come in different sizes, as listed below:
- SRS-XB40: 100mmx279mm
- SRS-XB30: 82mmx228mm
- SRS-XB20: 68mmx198mm
Of course, you might be wondering, “does it have RGB?”. Perfectly valid question, since it’s 2017 now, and Sony confirms that it does come with RGB! It’s a multicolour line-light that can create patterns, ranging from pure white to a rainbow. This line-light can be synced with the rhythm of the music you’re listening to, and matches the environment.
You can even daisy-chain up to 10 of these speakers together too. and potentially make the entire street into a huge rave party in the middle of the night. All these speakers can use SongPal – an app for your smartphone to control everything on the SRS-XB40/XB30/XB20 speakers. However, the Fiestable app is exclusive for the SRS-XB40 only, which enables DJ-like controls for lighting and colors.
Comes with a USB-A port so the speaker can be a power bank too. Not bad!
SRS-XB10
An even tinier Bluetooth speaker, coming in at only 91mmx75mm. Sony promises that this SRS-XB10 comes with Sony EXTRA BASS (pun intended??) with incredible loudness and punchy bass with its tiny body, yet manages to pack 16 hours of battery life in it. It’s even IPX5 certified too – it means waterproof.
How? Ask Sony.
MDR-XB950N1 and MDR-XB950B1 EXTRA BASS Wireless Headphones
Both of these headphones are connected with Bluetooth (obviously) and comes with the now-quite-obscure NFC technology for easy pairing too. However, Sony is kind enough to include Qualcomm aptX technology (more information about it here) and AAC codec support for a more enjoyable music experience.
Both these smartphones can be controlled with Sony | Headphones Connect app which brings even more granular control to the equalizer, and to fine tune the bass further. For the MDR-XB950N1, this app can turn the noise canceling settings on or off.
MDR-XB550AP EXTRA BASS Wired On-Ear Headphones
The smaller design of the other two MDR-XB950N1/B1 headphones, but no Qualcomm aptX or AAC codec, since it’s a pair of wired headphones. Pretty basic pair of headphones in terms of features, but still has a Smart Key App to customize those in-line buttons to your liking.
MDR-XB510AS EXTRA BASS In-Ear Sports Headphones
Two things to highlight – it’s a pair of wired earphones, and it is IPX5/7 waterproof certified. Comes in a total of 5 different colours – black, red, blue, green, and white. Feature-wise, it’s pretty much the same as the MDR-XB550AP – as it can be used together with the Smart Key App to manually customize the in-line controls.
