Ah, remember that ZenFone Zoom from yesteryear that we reviewed here? Yeah that. It’s a great smartphone overall – but the only thing that’s holding it back is the Intel chipset. Now, ASUS revisits the idea of a zoom smartphone camera and created the all new ASUS ZenFone 3 Zoom with the codename ZE553KL.
The official retail price is at RM 2,099, and it’s already available on Lazada now! And it’s available in 3 different colours, too!
The previous Zoom was the first one to use a periscope-like camera to create that 3x optical zoom within a relatively slim and sleek body, but this time around ASUS changes things up with a dual lens setup for the ZenFone 3 Zoom ZE553KL. Comes with a 12MP f/1.7 aperture wide-angle lens with ASUS SuperPixel Technology and another 12MP camera with 2.3x optical zoom. This means it will have a depth of field effect just like any other dual-camera setup smartphones in the market. From what I can see here, one of the lens is a 25mm wide-angle lens, and another one is a 59mm lens.
Another feature that ASUS upgraded is the TriTech autofocus technology, and it’s now known as TriTech+ instead. What’s new here is the Dual-Pixel PDAF system, which is actually the same as what OPPO is using on their brand new OPPO R9s.
As for its selfie camera, the ZenFone 3 Zoom ZE553KL uses a Sony IMX214 13MP sensor coupled with a f/2.0 aperture lens that even has a 140° wide-angle selfie. And yes, it does have ASUS’s latest SuperPixel technology too.
For the core specs, ASUS opted for a Snapdragon 625 just like the ASUS ZenFone 3 that I reviewed here (love this chip by the way), Adreno 506 graphics, 4GB RAM and 64GB storage, a 5.5-inch 1080p AMOLED display, and a massive 5,000mAh battery. From what I can tell, the Snapdragon 625 is already a very energy-efficient chip with great performance – does having a 5,000mAh battery means it’ll last for two days without any issues?
