For me personally, I saw this coming. Facebook already has “gaming” all up on their face (pun intended) since Facebook Live came along. There are lots of streamers using Facebook to stream their games too. And now, Facebook is honoring those people by introducing Facebook Gaming.
Facebook has a brand new subsection in their site which you can access by going to Facebook.gg. Cheeky for a link, we know.
Upon close inspection, Facebook Gaming is a “hub” or “main page” for the list of streams that are popular or browse streams by games. It’s quite similar to what Twitch is doing.
To get started, it’s easy. Make sure you set your livestream’s activity to “playing [game]”, and it’ll automatically add your stream in the list of Facebook Gaming streams.
If you don’t know how to do it, then don’t worry. Facebook actually prepared a special site to guide you through the steps to get started.
Introducing the Facebook Gaming Creators page. Here, it’ll teach you how to get started in just 3 simple steps. First, build your own page with your own name/alias and identity. Then, Facebook tells you to download either OBS or XSplit and recommends the ideal settings for Facebook Gaming live streaming. Funny enough, Facebook Gaming doesn’t seem to support NVIDIA’s GeForce Experience for now.
After that, you can start your live stream and play your game to your heart’s content. Simple as that.
Alright, time for some personal opinion. Can Facebook Gaming leave a dent in the scene even though Twitch and YouTube are such a big site right now? I think yes. Facebook still has over 2.20 billion monthly active Facebook users for Q1 2018. The odds of having a “one in a million” is pretty high here.
It’s a matter of time until Facebook Gaming streamers to receive donations. Then, we might see more and more people moving to Facebook Gaming.
