Here’s something new – Samsung is introducing the first ever Yearly Upgrade Program, or YUP for short. It’s a program that you can enter right now when you purchase a brand new Samsung Galaxy S9 or S9+ and top up another RM100. The Yearly Upgrade Program is only valid from now until 2nd September 2018.
Let’s list down some of the details of what you’ll be getting.
First, enrolling in the Yearly Upgrade Program will entitle you to get an instant complimentary Samsung Screen Protector that is worth RM140, which is to be activated via the Samsung Members app. Then, you’ll be entitled for a one-month waiver fee if your new Galaxy S device is purchase via Samsung’s 12-month Easy Payment Plan at selected authorized dealers and outlets.
And now for the big elephant in the room – the incentives for future Galaxy S series smartphones. For those who are enrolled in the Yearly Upgrade Program, you are eligible for a 10% discount on the next Galaxy S device

Alright, time for some terms and conditions hunting. We did realize one particular clause that piqued my interest. It states that the Yearly Upgrade Program’s 10% discount is only “limited to upgrade purchase made between the 13th to the 15th month calculated from the month the current device is purchased.”
Samsung is also very transparent about this clause and stated an example on how this works – which turned out exactly like how we expect.
For example, if Galaxy S9 is purchased in the month of June 2018, YUP customer will be entitled to the 10% discount if he/she purchases the next incoming S Series device within the period of July till September 2019.
From what we can see here, the Yearly Upgrade Program is a surprisingly good pathway for those who want to get the Galaxy S9 or S9+ now and the next 10-anniversary Galaxy S smartphone.
This Yearly Upgrade Program is not applicable to Note series. Perhaps Samsung will have a similar one for the Note series if the reception is good.
