This agreement right here is definitely an interesting one. Remember the earlier news we covered regarding the BlackBerry DTEK60 and the DTEK50? Yeah – that smartphone is made in collaboration with TCL – where BlackBerry provides the software and TCL provide the hardware. Now, BlackBerry & TCL are entering a long-term licensing agreement orbiting this entire idea.
As you may have known, BlackBerry is moving out of the hardware side of things and going full-force into the security software-only. In my opinion, that’s a much more viable option for BlackBerry, and they finally realized that they need to perform the transition.
TCL is here to help them out of course, as TCL is already very seasoned in smartphone manufacturing. Alcatel and Flash smartphones are under TCL – just for your information.
“At TCL Communication, we are committed to creating the best portfolio solutions, while ensuring the quality support to consumers and enterprise users who trust the integrity of the BlackBerry device and the brand’s security leadership, coupled with the Android platform. Together with BlackBerry’s smartphone software platform, this partnership will strengthen our position in the global mobile market.” – Nicolas Zibell, CEO of TCL Communication.
The relationship between TCL Communication and BlackBerry builds upon their respective leadership positions in mobile communications, as well as existing work together on the DTEK50 and DTEK60 handsets. By working with TCL Communication, the fourth largest handset manufacturer in North America and top-10 globally according to IDC, BlackBerry is ensuring its branded devices will be available around the world.
Will BlackBerry be forgotten? I thought they would have if it wasn’t for this brilliant idea and collaboration between both BlackBerry & TCL Communication!
