The first announcement from Computex this year goes to ASUS – as always. What’s surprising this year is the lack of announcement on the ZenFone side of things, which was a little weird, given that the ZenFone 3 was one of the main announcements from last year’s Computex. Whichever it is, Computex 2017 ASUS – they’ve returned with a focus on laptops in particular.
Remember, ASUS’s theme for this year is The Edge of Beyond.
Here are a few key points on the announcements made by ASUS today:
- The powerful ZenBook Flip S is the world’s thinnest 2-in-1 convertible laptop, offering incomparable beauty, performance, and versatility
- All-new ZenBook 3 Deluxe and ZenBook Pro combine thin-and-light elegance and sophistication with unprecedented performance
- Thinnest, lightest and most stylish ASUS VivoBook line-up includes VivoBook S15 and VivoBook Pro 15, delivering empowering performance for all
Let’s take a look at them one by one.
ZenBook Flip S (UX370)
The new ZenBook Flip S is said to be the world’s thinnest convertible while being one of the lightest. As its name suggests, the UX370 does have a 360-degree flip screen while weighing in at only 1.1kg while being a measly 10.9mm thin. This is clearly insane.
ASUS claims that with their ErgoLift dual-action hinge design lifts and tilts the keyboard into the perfect typing position when the display is opened beyond 135° too. But of course, you’ll need great hardware to do amazing work on it – that’s where its impressive specs come in.
The ZenBook Flip S is available at up to an insane Intel Core i7-7500U and 1TB PCIe SSD while keeping temperatures low with their new cooling system that uses a liquid-crystal-polymer fan impeller that’s only 0.3mm thin. As for its display, you can even get their highest end variant with 4K resolution a NanoEdge display. Supports stylus too!
ZenBook Pro (UX550)
Coming towards a more beefier laptop, the ZenBook Pro can be configured to up to an Intel i7-7700HQ coupled with a GTX 1050 Ti, 1TB PCIe x4 SSD with 16GB of DDR4 RAM. ASUS even promises a day-long battery life of up to 14 hours!
Coming in at just 18.9mm thin and 1.8kg light with a 15.6-inch 4K NanoEdge display, the ZenBook Pro is truly a device to work and game at the same time, wherever you go. Even features a quad-speaker system by Harman Kardon too, and an illuminated lid logo.
Zenbook 3 Deluxe (UX490)
Here’s another thin and light laptop for you all – coming in at just 12.9mm thin and 1.1kg light with its 14-inch NanoEdge display.
Comes with up to Intel i7i-7500U, 16GB 2133MHz LPDDR3 RAM, 1TB PCIe SSD and dual Thunderbolt 3 ports, the ZenBook 3 is definitely for those who wants the fastest and simplest connectivity out there through a single cable. And hey – you have two of them. More headroom for expansion in the future!
VivoBook Pro 15 (N580)
For those who wants something with a larger screen, the VivoBook Pro 15 is a 15.6-inch laptop with Intel i7-7700HQ and up to 16GB of DDR4 RAM and NVIDIA GTX 1050 graphics. It can be configured to have a hybrid storage solution of a 2TB HDD and 512GB SSD too.
Now, about thermals – the VivoBook Pro 15 comes with a dual-copper thermal module and heat pipes so it can stay cool in all situations. Perhaps lower noise levels too.
The VivoBook Pro 15 comes with a 4K display with 100% sRGB color gamut, Harman Kardon-certified speakers, and supports ASUS Pen.
ASUS VivoBook S15 (S510)
The absolute latest and most premium model when it comes to the VivoBook series. This 15.6-inch laptop is only 17.9mm thin at 1.5kg. Comes with ASUS’s latest NanoEdge display with 7.8mm thin bezels for immersive user experience. Even comes with an Intel i7-7500U with up to 16GB of DDR4 and NVIDIA GeForce 940MX graphics too.
A little dated when it comes to graphics, but it’s certainly usable.
Other The Edge of Beyond Product Showcase
ASUS Blue Cave
While other manufacturers are making routers with octopus-like designs, ASUS thinks that routers should be beautiful. Hence, the ASUS Blue Cave. Not sure why the name cave, though.
The ASUS Blue Cave is a AC3600-class router with dual-band WiFi honestly speaking, it’s beautiful. Just beautiful. Even comes integrated with IFTTT-enabled digital service for automated tasks too!
ZenFone AR
I’ve heard about this since last year, actually. It’s a ZenFone that is focused dearly around Google’s new focus on AR technology. Comes with a Snapdragon 821 chipset with 8GB of RAM, 5.7-inch 1440 Super AMOLED display, the ZenFone AR is certainly no slouch when it comes to real-time processing.
But what about AR? Introducing the ASUS TriCam technology – a three-camera system consists of a main 23MP camera, a motion-tracking camera, and another depth-sensing camera.
This might end up in our labs to get a full technical report from us too! 😉
However, I find it weird to not have any ZenFone 4-related announcements during Computex 2017 ASUS announcements.

Are you excited on these ASUS products? Which one are you most excited about? For me, I think the lack of ZenFone 4’s appearance in Computex 2017 is a little weird. I mean, it’s ASUS’s star of the smartphone lineup anyway. Though, with their recent launch of the magnificent ASUS ZenFone 3 Zoom that I love so much, I don’t want it to be obsolete this quickly. Whichever way it is, at least there’s a ZenFone AR.
That’s all for Computex 2017 ASUS. Do check out for local announcement – if any – and subscribe to our notification for other Computex 2017 coverage!
