AMD first released their AMD Zen architecture of processors last year with the Ryzen series of desktop processors. The Ryzen 7 sent waves of ripples across the entire ecosystem of desktop processors. AMD now officiates the Ryzen Mobile processors in Malaysia with the Ryzen 5 2500U and the Ryzen 7 2700U processors.
These two Ryzen Mobile processors are made based on the same Zen x86 architecture from a year ago, and mashed together with AMD’s Radeon Vega GPU on a single chip.
Here are the specs for both the Ryzen 5 2500U and Ryzen 7 2700U.
| Model | Ryzen 5 2500U | Ryzen 7 2700U |
| CPU Cores | 4 | 4 |
| Threads | 8 | 8 |
| Base Clock (GHz) | 2.0 | 2.2 |
| Boost Clock (GHz) | 3.6 | 3.8 |

As of now, there are two laptops that are using Ryzen Mobile processors.

There’s actually another laptop that is using Ryzen – but it’s technically not Ryzen Mobile. Introducing the ASUS ROG Strix GL702ZC (CGC273T). It is equipped with a desktop-class Ryzen 7 1700 with Radeon RX580, 8GB of DDR4 RAM, 256GB SATA SSD with 17.3-inch 1080p IPS screen. It’s available on the market now, too.
From what we were told, there will be more laptops with Ryzen Mobile processors coming to the market in the near future. Honestly speaking, the form factor you can achieve with the performance that a single piece of silicon can bring to the user is immense when it comes to AMD’s Ryzen Mobile processors. I’m still waiting for an 8C16T Ryzen Mobile processor, though. If that ever happens, that is.
We’ll definitely update this space when we have more information on upcoming laptops that are powered by Ryzen Mobile processors!
