Samsung started off the UNPACKED event with a big – the Galaxy Fold. This is definitely the device that everyone is waiting to see what Samsung shows off since they are indeed the pioneer and visionaries behind foldable displays and foldable phones. And now we finally know what that phone is truly about.

The Samsung Galaxy Fold is obviously the foldable smartphone that has two parts – one smaller 4.6-inch display when folded, and another larger 7.3-inch display when unfolded. Samsung achieves this folding ability by employing a unique gear hinge system that folds and unfolds the hinge smoothly.

Samsung also packed the Galaxy Fold with lots of cameras. There are a total of 6 cameras – 3 main cameras at the back, one while folded, and two more when unfolded. We are still unsure what these cameras do just yet – but we expect it to be following the Galaxy S10 series smartphones’ cameras.

We do also know that Samsung has a physical fingerprint sensor at the side since the demonstration showed it off. The other two features that were heavily emphasized during the short demonstration of the Galaxy Fold are the triple app multitasking and also app continuity.

App continuity is simple and pretty self-explanatory – the applications transfers between screens seamlessly while folding and unfolded. Imagine navigating through Google Maps while folded but you need to go on to the big screen. You can just unfold and Google Maps will just display on the big screen seamlessly.

As for the triple app multitasking, you can have a total of 3 different apps running side by side. We were shown that the Galaxy Fold can have YouTube, WhatsApp, and Browser running at the same time – all at once.

Samsung also touts its new innovation in the battery department. Since the phone is literally split into two different parts, the battery is also split into two parts, totaling up to a capacity of 4,380mAh.
