Last month, Xiaomi launched the superbly well-received phone, the Mi 9. Over the course of these few weeks the Mi 9 has been selling like hotcakes and had been going out of stock consistently. That’s no surprise as we have given our gold award to the Mi 9 in our in-depth review here. And now, Xiaomi Malaysia is bringing in the Mi 9 SE.
The Mi 9 SE in many ways, might seem similar with the Mi 9. There are a few differences, though. First, let us see the specs of the Mi 9 SE:
- 5.97-inch Super AMOLED display with waterdrop notch
- 2340×1080 pixels in resolution
- Qualcomm Snapdragon 712 chipset
- 2x Kryo 360 Gold @ 2.3GHz + 6x Kryo 360 Silver @ 1.7GHz
- Adreno 616 GPU with 128 ALUs
- 6GB LPDDR4X RAM
- Up to 128GB storage
- Triple rear-facing cameras
- Telephoto: 8MP f/2.4 with PDAF
- Main: 48MP f/1.8 with PDAF
- Ultrawide: 13MP f/2.4 fixed focus
- 20MP f/2.0 selfie camera
- 3,070mAh battery with up to 18W fast charging
From what we can see here, the Mi 9 SE does have a lot of significant changes when compared with the Mi 9. The screen is a little smaller in size, but still using the same technologies. The Super AMOLED screens are really looking great on the Mi 9 and is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5.
Then secondly and perhaps the biggest change is the chipset itself. The Mi 9 SE comes with a Snapdragon 712 chipset and with it comes a mid-to-high range performance. We do expect the Mi 9 SE to still run many games at high frame rates on relatively high graphical settings.
Thirdly, the cameras. From what we can see here, it still has 3 cameras but with lowered megapixels count except for the main 48MP sensor. The ultrawide camera is a fixed focus camera on the Mi 9 SE.
The battery is also smaller on the Mi 9 SE as it is only 3,070mAh battery. Before we make any judgment, we have to test it for ourselves first because the miliampere-hour battery rating does not linearly equate to battery life. We still have to consider the Snapdragon 712 chipset’s power efficiency.
The Mi 9 SE will be launched via livestream on Mi Malaysia’s Facebook page and you can stand a chance to win the Mi 9 SE Brown Bear edition too.
As of now, we do not have any official pricing or availability yet. We will update this page when we have more information.
