If those names are familiar to you, then you should know why. Telenor is the owner of Digi and Axiata is the owner of Celcom. In a post published by Telenor, a merger between the two companies in terms of operations are being discussed. For them to merge together means that they will be the largest wireless telecommunication company in Malaysia.
As of now, there are very little details regarding the potential merger. The new merger will have Telenor holding the majority of share at 56.5% and Axiata owning the other 43.5%. This is preliminary and subject to adjustments and due diligence.
Both Telenor and Axiata will work towards finalizing the agreements and will have the final proposed transaction within Q3 2019, following due diligence.
Once the transaction has been agreed, it still needs approval by shareholders, receipt of regulatory approvals, and other customary terms and conditions.
We will continue to update this page when we have more information about the Axiata and Telenor merger in Asian operations.
