Pocophone. It was a big hit when the F1 was launched back in 2018. It’s not the best-looking or has the best hardware overall – but it’s great enough while having a surprisingly low price tag. That phone became a hot-selling phone and literally propelled the brand Pocophone from nothing to world-renowned with just one phone. But they went into hiatus until today – the Poco X2 is now official.

The Poco X2 is not the phone that many people hoped or expected. It’s technically a Redmi K30 clone. And we can call it a clone because Poco is now an independent brand that is not under Xiaomi.

So now, Poco is on its own. But its first phone as an independent company is the Redmi K30. Even its specs are exactly the same:

  • 6.67 IPS LCD display with 2400×1080 pixels in resolution
    • 120Hz refresh rate
  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 730G chipset
  • Up to 8GB RAM
  • Up to 256GB of internal storage (expandable via microSD)
  • Triple rear-facing cameras
    • Main: 64MP f/1.9 with PDAF
    • Ultrawide angle: 8MP f/2.2
    • Macro: 2MP f/2.4
    • Depth sensor
  • Selfie camera
    • Main: 20MP f/2.2
    • Depth sensor
  • 4,500mAh battery with 27W fast charging

Poco X2

So yeah, looking at the specs itself, the Poco X2 is a mid-range smartphone, and it is technically a rebranded Redmi K30. The price has definitely gone up compared to the Pocophone F1, as the Poco X2 is available at these prices:

  • 6GB RAM + 64GB internal storage @ ₹15,999 (~RM925.56)
  • 6GB RAM + 128GB internal storage @ ₹16,999 (~RM983.41)
  • 8GB RAM + 256GB internal storage @ ₹19,999 (~RM1,156.97)

The prices will definitely differ when it comes to Malaysia. Actually – let me rephrase that question to “if” it comes to Malaysia. The Poco X2 might be exclusive to certain regions, thus it can coexist with the Redmi K30.

Poco X2

In any other way, the new Poco X2 is definitely not the flagship-killing smartphone brand like the Pocophone F1 days.
