While we’re waiting for the Galaxy S20, we are here to review both the Galaxy A51 and Galaxy A71. These are two brand new Galaxy A series of smartphones. And this review will be looking at both devices side by side and look at the differences, then see what device is right for you.

Here, we have a video that is densely packed with information. Hence, the saying “long-lasting battery life” in the Galaxy A series’s ad is actually true for both devices.

The Galaxy A71 is indeed a larger smartphone and has a larger battery, thus having more battery to spare if you want to do something more intense during the day – maybe gaming.

Then comes the battery charging speed. I’d say it’s rather irrelevant since both the Galaxy A series of smartphones can last throughout the day with a single charge.

In any case, the Galaxy A71 has 25W fast charging while the Galaxy A51 has 15W fast charging. That results in the Galaxy A71 being able to charge faster than the Galaxy A51 while having a larger battery, as shown in our benchmark.

And now comes the cameras on both of these phones. They’re both very similar from one another, actually. They both have:

Samsung Galaxy A71

Quad rear-facing cameras Main camera

48MP f/2.0 with PDAF

64MP f/1.8 with PDAF

Ultra wide-angle camera

12MP f/2.2

Macro camera

5MP f/2.4

Depth sensor

5MP f/2.2

Selfie camera

32MP f/2.2

In terms of pictures, they’re both very consistent in terms of colors and white balance across all the cameras. However, the Galaxy A51 does have a brighter image overall despite its smaller aperture, but this should be further improved via software updates in the future.

We highly recommend you to watch our review video at the top of this review article so that you get an idea of what we mean.

One thing to take note is that both the Galaxy A51 and Galaxy A71 smartphones come with a 5MP macro camera. This higher resolution macro camera actually takes some useful pictures which we have talked about here. It can be educational too, as we can see how velcros work through the 5MP macro camera.

Why both the Samsung Galaxy A51 and A71 have awesome cameras

Both of these phones also come with Samsung’s One UI 2.0 with the full-fledged Edge Panel features and Samsung Pay – both features which I use daily.

So overall, the price of the Galaxy A51 is at RM1,299 whereby the Galaxy A71 is at RM1,799.

All in all, I am unable to recommend one smartphone over the other. They both do share some similarities, but the price scales alongside the performance, camera, and overall battery capacity. For example, if you want to play games on your smartphone – then the Galaxy A71 is great. Else, the Galaxy A51 is fine too.

Better yet, both of these phones also support the full-fledged Edge Panel and also Samsung Pay. Once again, these are the features that add value to my everyday workflow.
