The Approach series smartwatches by Garmin is the de facto model for those who favor golf sports on a basis. From the budget S10 to the premium ones like S60, one can find the most suitable and feature-packed device according to their needs.
Today, the premium level is getting another kick up as the Garmin Approach S62 is announced at a price of RM2,399. Whew, that’s an RM500 bump from the previous S60. Let’s see what it’s got in store.
Garmin Approach S62 – Smart caddie on the go
First off, the touchscreen gets a 17% upgrade, now measuring at 1.3-inches which has anti-glare for all-day outdoor usage and it has better colors and clarity compared to the S60 which is critical to display every knit and nook precisely. The bezel is built with a scratch-resistant ceramic to withstand all the heavy swingings you could pull off or daily wear and tear too.
With the available 41,000 courses mapped, the watch utilizes PinPointer feature to track the swing and pinpoint the pin exactly if golfers are running blind shot trials. Meanwhile, the PlaysLike Distance will calculate and compensate uphills and downhills with Hazard View showing obstacles to avoid along the course.
Thanks to the Green View feature, the watch will display each green’s true shape and drag-and-dropping the pin is made for golfers for better yardage accuracy no matter where they are within the course. Additionally, shots can be detected and recorded with the AutoShot function that can be paired with the Approach CT10 sensors if you wish to.
You thought the S62 is only for golfers on a premium price tag? Fear not. The wrist-based heart rate monitoring is there to display the intensity of a user’s fitness activities and the renowned Pulse Ox sensor is fitted as well, estimating blood oxygen saturation levels on the go. Standard smartwatch functions such as to receive e-mails, texts, and alerts right on the display of the watch makes it befitting daily lifestyle and sports altogether. The battery also gets a bump to 20 hours in GPS mode and 2 weeks in smartwatch mode.
The Garmin Golf app will support the S62 similarly with the S10 through Garmin Connect where stats such as handicap index, fairway, hit or miss percentage and much more are calculated to better reflect recommendations on future trials.
Don’t like the way it is? Then just swap out the Quickfit bands of other materials or colors to match your likings. Changing the watch face, apps and widgets are also as simple as visiting the Connect IQ store and downloading them.
