Xiaomi just announced the arrival of 3 new smartphones into the global market. Two of them are expanding the current lineup of midrange smartphones – namely the Redmi Note 9 and the Redmi Note 9 Pro to accompany the recently-launched Redmi Note 9S – which we have reviewed here. We love the Redmi Note 9S, by the way.
Xiaomi also launched the Mi Note 10 Lite, which is to complement the existing Mi Note 10 (review) series of smartphones.
Redmi Note 9
Starting with the new king of budget smartphones, the Redmi Note 9 comes with this list of specs:
- 6.53-inch IPS LCD screen
- 1080p resolution
- MediaTek Helio G85 chipset
- Up to 4GB RAM
- Up to 128GB storage
- Quadruple rear-facing cameras
- Main: 48MP f/1.8 with PDAF
- Ultra-wide angle: 8MP f/2.2
- Macro: 2MP f/2.4 with AF
- Depth sensor
- 13MP f/2.3 selfie camera
- 5,020mAh battery
- Wired 18W fast charging
In short, the Redmi Note 9 is very similar to the Redmi Note 9S in terms of the cameras, battery life, and charging speed. The Redmi Note 9 is slightly smaller in size and has a Helio G85 chipset instead, but it’ll still pack in a strong punch.
The Redmi Note 9 is available in two configurations at these prices:
- 3GB RAM + 64GB storage @ $199
- 4GB RAM + 128GB storage @ $249
Redmi Note 9 Pro
The highest end of the Redmi Note 9 series is – of course – the Pro variant. The new Redmi Note 9 Pro has this list of specs:
- 6.67-inch IPS LCD screen
- 1080p resolution
- Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G
- 6GB RAM
- Up to 128GB storage
- Quadruple rear-facing cameras
- Main: 64MP f/1.9 with PDAF
- Ultra-wide angle: 8MP f/2.2
- Macro: 5MP f/2.4 with AF
- Depth sensor
- 16MP f/2.5 selfie camera
- 5,020mAh battery
- Wired 30W fast charging
This is an obvious step-up from the Redmi Note 9S but only in terms of the main camera and the battery charging speed. Other than that, it’s pretty much identical – even the screen size is the same.
As for the prices, the Redmi Note 9 Pro is available at these variants at these prices:
- 6GB RAM + 64GB storage @ $269
- 6GB RAM + 128GB storage @ $299
Mi Note 10 Lite
This is a rather unexpected announcement from Xiaomi. Introducing, the new Mi Note 10 Lite. This is the first time we’re seeing it, too.
Here is the spec list for the Mi Note 10 Lite:
- 6.47-inch AMOLED screen
- 1080p resolution
- Qualcomm Snapdragon 730G
- 6GB RAM
- Up to 128GB storage
- Quadruple rear-facing cameras
- Main: 64MP f/1.9 with PDAF & Laser AF
- Ultra-wide angle: 8MP f/2.2
- Macro: 2MP f/2.4
- Depth sensor
- 16MP f/2.5 selfie camera
- 5,260mAh battery
- Wired 30W fast charging
Xiaomi’s Note series of smartphones are always focused on the cameras. It’s no surprise that the new Mi Note 10 Lite’s core specs aren’t that much different from the Mi Note 10 that we reviewed here. But, its main camera has been downsized to a 64MP sensor instead.
But then again, pixel count is not the full story. Maybe the Mi Note 10 Lite can also take striking images, but without the resolution to match.
The Mi Note 10 Lite is available at these variants at these prices:
- 6GB RAM + 64GB storage @ €349
- 6GB RAM + 128GB storage @ €399
Pricing & availability
As of now, we do not have any official pricing or availability for the Malaysian market just yet. We’re told that the Redmi Note 9 and the Note 9 Pro will be available in May, but not sure about the Mi Note 10 Lite.
