In the year 2020, Dell revamped the design of the entire XPS series and introduced a new 17-inch variant into the family. It might look like just a bigger XPS overall, but in terms of technological advances, I am most excited for the XPS 17.
The XPS 17 is available in black color only. The entire laptop is still made out of CNC-milled aluminum, covered in Platinum Silver. The palm rest area is made out of carbon fiber, which allows maximum strength with minimal weight, and has the iconic texture too.
Under Dave2D’s video where he showcased the new XPS 17, he mentioned that it is using a vapor chamber instead of traditional heatpipes for its cooling system. The speaker is also bigger and top-firing, providing a much better listening experience.
Other than that, the XPS 17 seems to be an enlarged version of the XPS 15 since its core specs are pretty much identical. Obviously, it packs in a larger battery too – clocking in at 97Wh.
I think the XPS 17 is a great all-rounder as a thin-and-light laptop. It starts at RM7,999 with the Intel Core i5-10300H processor with integrated graphics and 8GB of RAM – which is suitable for the vast majority of users.
However, I’m very interested in the higher-end variant at RM9,999. It comes with the Intel Core i7-10750H processor with NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 Ti, 16GB RAM. Since it’s cooled by a vapor chamber, it should be even suitable for some content creation software.

We are reviewing the Dell XPS 13 9300 now (publishing next week, we promise!) and it feels absolutely fantastic. An aluminium unibody with diamond-cut sidewalls, platinum silver coating, a fantastic screen with an incredibly high screen-to-body ratio, and a marvelous hinge too.
The new display with 16:10 aspect ratio is just excellent too. Extra vertical space is always useful – especially while reading with documents. Speaking of documents – the new keyboard feels blissful to type on.
