OnePlus Malaysia is making a splash by teasing the Nord for weeks to come, and they’ve also sold two rounds of the mystery box – which is essentially lootbox, which means it’s gambling. But that’s not the point today.
Nord
The OnePlus Nord is said to be a return to its roots like the OnePlus One many years ago. The OnePlus Nord has this list of specs:
- 6.44-inch
- AMOLED display
- 90Hz refresh rate
- 1080p resolution
- Snapdragon 765G chipset
- Up to 12GB RAM
- Up to 256GB storage
- Triple rear-facing cameras
- Main: 48MP f/1.8 with PDAF and OIS
- Ultra-wide angle: 8MP f/2.3
- Macro: 2MP f/2.4
- Depth sensor
- Dual selfie cameras
- Main: 32MP f/2.5
- Ultra-wide angle: 8MP f/2.5
- 4,115mAh battery
- 30W fast charging
One particular thing that I realized with the Nord is the lack of WiFi-6 support even in this era.
There are two variants of the OnePlus Nord that will be available in Malaysia, but in a rather weird configuration:
- 8GB RAM + 128GB storage @ RM1,799
- 12GB RAM + 256GB storage + OnePluds Buds @ RM2,399
OnePlus Buds
Now, the Buds are pretty typical. It’s an AirPods copycat which means it just dangles on the ear, and also has some touch gestures and that’s it.
I was actually interested to know what’s the codec that the OnePlus Nord uses – but to my surprise, OnePlus has omitted all of that information from their website.
If that’s the case, then most probably the OnePlus Nord is using the most basic SBC codec. If it’s using SBC codec, that means the audio fidelity is not going to be good – but audio fidelity isn’t a direct correlation to audio quality.
However, it’s still doesn’t support aptX LL. And no matter what Bluetooth version it is using, Bluetooth wireless audio delay will still be significant, which means it’s not going to be good enough to be used for gaming.
We’ve done a lot of gaming tests in the past – and here are our findings.
