Dell Technologies has announced that its Cloud Platform is now supporting VMware’s vSphere, vSAN, and Cloud Foundation to help customers better manage and protect their applications across data centers, hybrid clouds, and remote locations.
Due to VMware releasing the latest versions of its virtualization technologies to support Tanzu, Dell Technologies worked closely with them and integrated solutions such as Dell Technologies Cloud, Dell EMC VxRail, Dell EMC PowerProtect, Dell EMC PowerEdge, and more have been updated to support them as well.
The jointly engineered HCI appliance VxRail is the very first system to get VMWare Tanzu integration that allows customers to quickly adopt the Kubernetes container orchestration platform for easy and quick deployment and provision. For maximum flexibility and compatibility, clients are able to deploy Tanzu either through a validated private architecture, VxRail clusters, and/or with Dell Technologies Cloud Platform. As for the costing, it is as low as $70 per node per day for Tanzu in hybrid clouds with a startup deployment period of 2 weeks and expansion in 5 days.
Storage Innovations
The Dell EMC PowerMax replication has shorter provisioning, replication, and service level policies customization timeframe due to the integration of VMware’s vSphere Virtual Volumes and Site Recovery Manager that modernizes infrastructure while protecting mission-critical applications together. The new feature called Cloud Mobility allows customers to move data from their premise to public clouds that not only reduces the cost per GB for long-term data retention by up to 50% but also freeing up as much capacity for the PowerMax unit to process high priority data with greater efficiency.
There is also another new Kubernetes-based object storage platform, the Dell EMC ObjectScale currently available in an early access program that provisions S3-compatible, cloud-scale storage for modern stateful applications on demand. It is a great deal for cloud-native application architectures to use object storage technologies to deliver application experiences directly through vSphere as it is designed with a scale-out, geo-distributed architecture with global accessibility for the best enterprise storage across edge, core, and hybrid cloud models.
Data Protection for every data
The Tanzu integrated PowerProtect Data Manager now can do more as it is now the current exclusive solution to vCenter Storage Policy-based Management integration for VM protection. This helps fellow VI admins to save time by applying well-known workflows within the vSphere environment to assign data protection policies. Moreover, the latest release of PowerProtect Data Manager offers a VMware-certified solution to protect the VMware Cloud Foundation infrastructure layer. In the future, the need to pause a VM instance to perform backup will be removed as Dell Technologies is working on a workaround by tapping into snapshots and data movement technologies that do not disrupt business application uptimes while performing regular backups for maximum security and operational efficiency.
Exceptional Deployment Speed
Through the collaboration, Cloud Service Providers are enjoying significant cost savings while reducing the time taken to manage and provision multi-tenant cloud environments, virtual data centers that can be built and deploy within seconds. With new automation capabilities further streamlining service deployment and lifecycle management of software-defined data centers, CSP’s running VMware Cloud Director on DTCP can offer customers rapid access to a more reliable and consistent cloud experience across their DTCP environments and off-premise instances.

As a side note, the 2 companies are joining in supporting Project Monterey, an applications-driven response to the unprecedented change in how applications are being built and deployed. By adding support for SmartNICs, VMware and Dell Technologies are providing a path for customers to build next-gen infrastructure that efficiently manages the placement of infrastructure, application, and security demands across CPUs, GPUs, and SmartNICs.
