Opensignal has come up with another round of reports targeting people who have switched sides to other mobile operators from the year 2019 until 2020.

OpenSignal Mobile Operator Changes 2021

Through this chart plotted with data throughout 2019 and 2020, Opensignal found out that it is common for people to switch mobile operators for reasons, a significant shift in numbers during the lockdown period shown that competitors offering free or cheaper data packages really gives people a reason to switch over. On the other hand, due to competitive pricing, the public nowadays focuses on the quality of experience as their top priority in selecting one company’s service out of many.

Results-wise, Celcom, Maxis, and Digi have been on the downside throughout 2019 where everything is safe and sound with small players gaining these lost customers. And then the pandemic strikes out of nowhere and lockdowns happened and the numbers don’t lie, with 2020’s winners being Celcom, Maxis and Unifi. Deeper findings revealed that cheap plans and daily 1GB free data offerings for productivity use being as some of the main factors that are driving these numbers.

OpenSignal User Experience Issue 2021

Looking at the reasons for churn, fellow user’s service quality experience during the 30 days before they switched operators are also recorded. Leavers across all national mobile network operators (MNOs), except unifi, on average, spend between 69.8% and 145.5% more time without a mobile signal compared to the average scores on their networks. These numbers suggested that 3G and 4G availability really played a big part in why users even the loyal ones would leave if weak signals have continued for an extensive period of time.

Looking at these numbers and tying to people staying indoors more often than not, people have started to crave better and more consistent cellular and internet connection nowadays and will not hesitate to switch to other offerings to do so. What’s your take about this or are you one of those who are involved in these numbers? Let us know your thoughts.
