At Samsung’s Unbox & Discover 2021 keynote, the company has announced several upcoming products that are aimed to uplift the efficiency of working and communication while being part of every user’s life in the form of entertainment use as well.
With people around the world spending more time indoors for both work and daily activities such as entertainment and relaxation, Samsung is trying to redefine what a TV and associated devices can do or their roles and expand upon them with technological advancements.
Here’s what they have introduced during the keynote so far.
The first one is the latest 8K display the Neo QLED that is powered by the exclusive Neo Quantum Processor and Quantum Mini LEDs with the ability to micro-manage light control even better than before at just 1/40th of the size of conventional LEDs which results in proper brightness of deep blacks and bright lights. Aside from the industry-leading upscaling algorithm, the device is also the official TV partner for Xbox Series X in the US and Canada with verification of gaming standards such as native 4K, 120 FPS, and low response time all fulfilled by it.
Speaking of gaming, it is also the first TV to uphold the AMD FreeSync Premium Pro verification while the Game Bar and Super Ultrawide Gameview enhance the gamer’s experience of immersion and access to features traditionally reserved for gaming monitors. For the non-gamers, the fitness-focused Samsung Health can be found in the TV and now has an added Smart Trainer function which when paired with an optional camera, analyses your posture and movement to make sure it is as correct as possible to the instruction shown on screen. Needless to say, the seamless integration across the company’s own line of mobile devices and wearables for a complete physical fitness monitoring suite is not a dream now.
The Neo QLED TV will become available in a variety of sizes with 8K models having 65, 75, and 85-inches while 4K models will start at 50-inches.
Now let’s talk about specialty TVs. We know Samsung isn’t new to this ideology either. Past products such as The Frame, The Sero, and The Terrace all show the possibility of home TVs or display for the matter, do not need to be as simple as a TV as they can be something else too.
This time around, a new 75-inch digital whiteboard is Samsung’s answer to productivity use. Dubbed as “The Flip”, users can write, draw, and edit on this panel with the support of up to 20 personal devices interconnected at once to share and present their ideas without all the file transferring hassle. “Audience” device can also opt-out of sharing content and just simply stream what’s display on The Flip which is perfect for classroom and teaching environments.
I can see this thing start popping up in colleges and universities worldwide with how trendy online teaching has become a necessity in certain regions. Of course, it is useful in any global-scale company that often runs cross-regional projects.
For the home theatre experience, a new surround sound system has been introduced under the new Q series category, the Q950A. Packing with a new Q-Symphony 3D sound and the addition of a soundbar within the package, the soundbar smartly detects the position of each speaker to precisely transmits directional audio of videos and games to produce greater immersion.
The Q950A is also the industry’s first 11.1.4 channel system that is also equipped with Bass Boost for a cinema-like “boomy” feel. Streaming music from a smartphone device is also as easy, just simply tap it to the soundbar to initiate a connection, similar to The Sero. Voice assistants such as Amazon Alexa and Bixby are supported natively as well.
When can I buy these?
While announced just yesterday, we are pretty sure that these will reach Malaysia in the next few months. We’ll be back with another round of announcements for them when prices and availability have been revealed.
