A multi-nation study has been conducted by Aruba and some interesting findings have been discovered in terms of the impact of high-performance networking and security solutions on connected and smart high-tech manufacturing operations, particularly in Malaysia.
Conducted by Forrester Consulting over the past 12 months, a general consensus supported by 2 in 3 manufacturers in Malaysia is focusing on prioritizing innovation and automation for greater operational efficiency and resilience. Although the study is conducted on more than 270 business and IT decision makers across Australia, India, Japan, Malaysia, South Korea, Taiwan, and Thailand, we’ll be talking about our own land for now.
For starters, the new generation of tech including edge and IoT-based applications and solutions are the main innovation-driving sectors for 7 out of 10 respondents and half of them already included automation and robots within their manufacturing processes. The same number can be said for utilizing cloud-managed networking and security solutions to benefit from improved flexibility, scalability, and defense capabilities.
Yet again, 7 in 10 respondents are seeing the increase of importance in enabling consistent network operation, remote monitoring, and modern resilient operations. Meanwhile, 6 out of the 10 indicate they have the intention to augment previous investments through AI-powered software to further optimize their business.
Addressing Data Privacy and Security Concerns
Although deploying leading technologies into processes and operations can drive business to new highs, the associated data privacy and security concerns have to be dealt with as well because anything digital will more or less involve these two gentlemen.
More than half of the respondents rated these factors part of their ‘Top 5 Challenges’ when implementing networking solutions while one-third of them feels the lacking of cybersecurity features in legacy IoT devices makes the list as well.
Responding to these issues, manufacturers have given themselves a period over the next 2 years to leverage emerging technologies and automation to properly secure their operations with more than 50% of respondents exploring potential cloud-managed networking while 33% are eyeing SD-WAN.
Zero Trust Edge solutions, a widely popular security method, are getting some interest from another 33% of manufacturers as well. Additionally, 2 in 3 said that identity-based traffic segmentation will help them achieve their business goals more effectively.
